Your excellent and unique p/e comparison of end 2006 could do for a remake as at end 2008. I encourage you to do that. Alternatively, if you can tell me how to easily find information on country p/e (Japan and Europe), I'd appreciate it. Thanks. Karim

Darrell, I have followed your writings which I find very valuable. As a counterpoint, Edward Hugh's article on Seeking Alpha (Japan's Grim and Bear It 2009 Outlook) seems to indicate that the public sector in Japan can do very little to help its economy and that, with foreign export markets reeling, Japan is set to enter into a severe decline. Assuming he has a (very little) point, how do you think that earnings underperformance in 2009 and maybe 2010 would affect the level of the Nikkei 225 or that of the main large Japanese companies' stock valuations & related P/Es? Thanks. Karim

Edward, despite the grimness Japan has been a very strong exporter and a successful business economy, and the Yen a fundamentally strong currency (even if that showed up only in the past year). Could you elaborate how the "grim outlook" (as you wrote it) would effectively affect the wellbeing of Japanese companies and the levels of the Japanese stock market? Thanks. Karim
