Like Walt17 alludes to, I think consumers have caught on to Starbucks, that's why this whole Via move is interesting to me, but I can't see it helping too much either, especially since coffee is coffee to me.

PastTense - That is an interesting observation, has the Wal-Mart era brought the death of chain drug stores. In my town at least, there's two of each CVS/Walgreen representations within 5 minutes, don't even know where the closest Wal-Mart is. So I think for the time being chains will survive, but you're right in saying the paradigm has shifted.
I like the Amazon love, as e-commerce grabbed even more of a share of holiday sales this past year, I think the figures show that the retail game has changed for the better. Firms need to enter this new era to compete, too bad kindles are too expensive for poor college students.

Is it just me or does the story say: "BJ’s gains have not done much to shift this balance of power." But yes with such a small (obviously biased) percentage what's the use of giving the market share data at all?
