  • Congress Spending Like Drunken Sailors [View article]

I am sorry to inform you that in light of your nefarious comments re: "drunken sailors," I have reported you to the Drunken Sailors Advocacy and Anti-defamation Group, for your abusive and unfair comparison of Druken Sailors to congresspersons.

Some of my best friends are Drunken Sailors. You should be ashamed.

I assume next time you are gravely ill, you'll pop off to Cuba for treatment then?

Be sure to let us know when you do.

    You, Sir, are nuts.

My wife is English-born, with many relatives and friends still there. She was raised in Canada and her parents lived there until they died. The nightmarish stories she and her family tell about health-care administration, rationing, and general quality in Canada--and especially the UK--could fill a book.

First chapter could well be the Canadian "Death Panel" my mother-in-law faced, where they told her she was too old for eye surgery that would have saved her from going blind, which she did. She and my father-in-law moved to America shortly thereafter.

That is just one instance of many.

My wife's first husband fell seriously ill with a blood clot in his lung while visiting England about 10 years ago. My wife describes the hospital as "Dickensian," with staff from head docs to bed-pan-emptiers who were bored, incompetent, and uninterested.

He was stuck in a ward of several patients, even though he begged (and was more than willing to pay for) a private or semi-private room. They looked at him like he was nuts. You had to have "pull" for that sort of treatment.

He felt "warehoused," rather than cared for. More like he was a bother than a patient.

So even though he was in great pain, he checked himself out, and he and my wife caught the next plane back to the US. He said, "It MIGHT have killed me to leave that hospital and fly home, but I KNEW if I stayed they would kill me."

And this I want to point out is a prominent hospital in London, considered one of the best.

We have known literally dozens of Canadians and Brits who have come to the US for treatment and surgery.

We know of absolutely no American who ever went to Canada or the UK for treatment.

    How many can YOU name?

    What does that tell you?

I was speaking with a friend who is instrumental (FDIC) in closing banks that are on the rocks.

He estimates he will personally be involved in closing "at least" 400 before the carnage subsides.

No joke. This from the horse's mouth.

OK, I get it. But we are all brilliant in retrospect. As I, a long-time blackjack player, like to say, "I always know what I should have done *after* the cards are dealt. It's beforehand that's a little trick."
