  • Apple: Winning The Profit Battle, Losing The Smartphone War [View article]
You are still wrong, Santos. Apple products in general and the iPhone in specific is not about hardware or software.

People buy Apple products because in a world of products where the choices are too often either, 1) buy junk or a compromise, or 2) lust after something that is beyond reach, Apple products allow the buyer to emotionally feel that they have purchased 'the best'.

It does not hurt that when considered holistically that Apple products are the best that are available.

So, for every reason that someone, who does not understand the Apple phenomenon, lists as a weakness; other phones are cheaper, Apple doesn't have the biggest market share, etc....they are really listing reasons that support the Apple brand.

Apple is one of the very few companies where their products perfectly mirror their brand.

Now, can Apple fall and can the price of AAPL shares go up and down? Yes.
But until Apple products stop being experienced as isomorphic with the brand, AAPL is a great investment.

That said, I look forward to glancing through every article that tries to describe why AAPL is not a good investment...though I must say that I completely skip anything from MB or Techy.

I scan the articles because I want to see if anyone can provide a bear case. I haven't seen it yet. The bear case has to do with Apple making serial and important mistakes related to their brand.

I don't see the issues related to gross brand mismanagement yet, does anyone?

  • Apple +7.6%; Street applauds iPhone sales, China growth [View news story]
I read Santo's thoughts. The flaw in his reasoning is that iPhone sales are about phones. He doesn't understand that people who buy iPhones are not concerned with the competitiveness of other phones.

For the life of me, I do not understand why he and MB and Techy, et all...who have a lot of emotions invested in how successful Apple is, do not understand why Apple is as successful as it is:

In a world of junk or products that are beyond reach, Apple products allow you to feel you own the best of something; something that you use relentlessly.

It goes like this in the minds and hearts of many, if not most with somewhat limited means: I don't have or won't spend the $$ to buy the Mercedes/etc. that I lust for, but am too poor or conservative/ buy. But, I can buy Apple products and feel I have the best that is available.

This is an emotional decision, not based on anything but one's desire to own what feels like the best. And, fortunately for those who are invested in AAPL, it is also a truth that Apple products ARE the best when considered holistically...not individual feature for feature in a product that may do something better than an Appe product, but that fails to equal the Apple product when analyzed holistically.

It's not about usefulness of the phone. Your premise is wrong because you do not understand what you are opining about.

I see this sort of mistake in my professional life every day: A theory built on a premise on logical flaws.

The logical flaw in your argument is that this is about phones.

Just one more uncertain thing in a world that is becoming increasingly uncertain.

The lemmings are running to to dollar.

Will the dollar prove to be certain?

Is there any other store of value that is certain in the face of uncertainty and as uncertainty swells and whirls?

  • Apple: Why So Bearish? [View article]
It seems to me that the share price is always driven down b4 the quarterly meetings. This is a stock where many people buy high and sell low because they don't understand the company or they listen to analysts.

Truly, if analysts were good at picking stocks, they would not be analysts...they'd be retired or investing for themselves.

  • Apple: Very Attractive Value But Based On Growth Expectations Dependent On Continued Innovation [View article]
I don't know that anything will be a game changer for AAPL. I any long since the 1980's and what has gone on in the last several years is 'interesting', in the Chinese proverb sense.

I hope I'm wrong, but it seems to me that AAPL will not get its due until there is: a) A product or slew of products that replace the phone, or b) It is clear that Samsung is no longer understood as a challenger.

The Narrative that holds AAPL back is promulgated here by Dezee and MB and a few others and is somehow understood as 'True' by the street: Apple is a one hit wonder. Nothing could be further from the truth. The company is innovative and has a very clear Vision and Mission which they pull of incredibly well.

I wonder how much jealousy plays into this? One can admire or be jealous. I choose to admire what leadership at Apple has done and is doing. It is a little overwhelming: This is the most successful company in history.

Are the products and software perfect? No. Are they AMAZING? Yes. Do other manufacturers have better products in some niches...Absolutely. But, taken as a whole now and in the reasonable future, Apple makes the best integrated personal technology products.

I will add something that may be of interest: A lot of my son's college friends got together at our house. They were talking about the apps that the HS kids were into. That is a sea change. When have college kids been interested in what HS kids were up to?
