I was going along until you included the KJV bible, even though I heard a story where it stopped a bullet, I think I'd rather have a reference book of health/medicine, you know non-fiction.

  • A trio of economists says the much-touted housing-wealth effect - the impact that home value has on consumer spending - is widely misunderstood. It's not about feeling less wealthy, or even the downfall of home-as-ATM, but rather that home-price changes are a proxy for people's income expectations.  [View news story]

  • A new book that explains how the world's poor live on $2 a day turns common assumptions upside down. Far from living hand-to-mouth, these families interviewed are borrowing, saving, and leading active financial lives because of their poverty, not in spite of it.  [View news story]
The micro loan concept an inexpensive feel-good program which remains only one piece to solving the poverty puzzle. 3 months ago the Pres. reversed a Bush's theocratic policy to block African governments from providing U.S.-funded contraceptive commodities to Marie Stopes International (MSI), one of the world’s leading family planning organisations. Promoting secular education (not non-profit church gospel) should receive greater funding so that women can be empowered to make more of the decisions that determine their quality of life.

  • GM confirms it's selling Hummer to Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery, which GM says will secure over 3K jobs in the U.S. Terms to follow.  [View news story]
Aw shucks, I guess we'll be seeing fewer Hummers with "freedom isn't free" and "support our troops" ribbons on american roads. The clock is ticking to see how long it takes Sichuan to haul all that scrapmetal and rubber back to the mainland where few remain in unsustainable aspiration to our conspicuous consumption; adieu, aufwiedersehen, good riddance.

  • Favorable Coal Conditions Now Moving In [View article]
This myopic perspective does not consider the costs to our healthcare system for "clean" coal emissions of carbon, sulfur and mercury. Not to mention the water consumption and water vapor produced. Health problems linked to aging coal-fired power plants shorten nearly 24,000 lives a year, including 2,800 from lung cancer even before considering consensus peer-reviewed AGW.

Thanks for the contemporary USO>UCO strategy. As far as your boast of owning a couple gas guzzling dinosaurs, I'd suggest getting in line for the government's cash-for-clunkers program, too.

  • Obama's got the wrong agency: When lawless pirates captured an American captain, the Navy put the hostage first... But when lawless bankers captured the global economy, Geithner put the hostage-takers first - and they're stepping up their demands.  [View news story]
