Dave Shafer's Company

Shafer Wealth Academy Hello, my name is David Shafer and I am the founder of Shafer Financial and the Shafer Wealth Academy. About 10 years ago, I grew concerned with my lack of progress in building wealth. Like the majority of the middle class, my wife and I were doing exactly what the financial “experts” told us to do, saving (over 15% of our income) and investing into mutual funds. We controlled our expenses and also were paying off our mortgage as soon as we could. My concern with our financial progress led me to research census data on wealth, academic studies, and of course the personal finance discussions in the popular press. What I found out was that we were totally wrong in our approach, confused as to what really created wealth, and what we needed to make a priority. Based on this research we changed our approach, making a priority of wealth creating behaviors. Amazingly, almost immediately our net worth started to accelerate upward.
There are three basic financial behaviors; debt management, wealth creation, and wealth preservation. Much is written and talked about with debt management and wealth preservation, but rarely is wealth creation a part of the conversation. If you, like millions of others, think that investing in mutual funds is a wealth creating strategy you are wrong.

Last year, I started a new part of my business called the Shafer Wealth Academy which is dedicated to helping people, like you, understand the things I found out from my research. I offer folks the benefit of my experience to create real wealth building plans and guidance in implementing these plans. I have also written a book that describes what is wrong with the way the vast majority of the middle class is approaching their finances.

If you still believe the old save and invest in mutual fund philosophy makes sense I strongly urge you to purchase my book. I assure you it will be an eye opener. If you already have a sense that what you are currently doing is not working then I suggest you consider purchasing my wealth building course. You can purchase it as a do-it-yourself version or combined with a year’s worth of wealth coaching to help you make this critical transition. For those of you that are severely time constrained, or have already tried making the transition with varied results, then the wealth coaching option is tailored-made for you. Dave Shafer's Blog

Uncommon Financial Wisdom Hello. I have been fortunate to combine my two professional interests, finance (B.S. Florida State Univ.) and social science (Ph.D. Brandeis Univ.), into my work as a Wealth Coach. This blog is dedicated to creating knowledgeable consumers who with a better understanding of wealth creation, finance, and money will be able to build a better future for themselves and their families. I believe the current state of financial/retirement planning is really about what Wall Street and the Lenders want individuals to do, as opposed to what the evidence demonstrates works for folks. This adherence to the actual data makes me a financial gadfly. Being a gadfly means presenting information to people that can make them uncomfortable or even angry sometimes. Hope you find the ideas and information useful, educational, and entertaining. If you find this blog unique and interesting please go to my wealth coaching web site: www.shaferfinancial.com. For a small amount of money, you can hire me to help you build a wealth creating plan from the ground up and put you in control of your money.

Dave Shafer's Book

Dr. Dave's Uncommon Financial Advice This year, once again, millions of Americans are taking a look at their retirement accounts and wondering what went wrong. Increasingly, since the 1980s, individuals are left to manage their retirement plans on their own. Outside of government employees, workers are left without the old defined pension retirement plans, depending instead on 401K/IRA deferred tax accounts. These plans are almost always funded with a mix of mutual funds. Employers and the government have decided that this combination (401K/IRA/403B tax deferred accounts funded with mutual funds) is the best way for people to save for their retirement. But is it? What is the actual rate of return workers get from their mutual fund accounts? How much actual tax savings does an individual achieve using one of these accounts? Finally, what are the actual results of workers managing their retirement accounts?
Dr. Dave’s Uncommon Financial Advice answers these questions and more. Exploring how people really create wealth, it explains how people can build real, lasting wealth, in order to create a comfortable retirement for themselves and their family.
Written as a primer for the Shafer Wealth Academy, it provides valuable information for everyone interested in planning for retirement or who is growing concerned about their financial future. If opening your retirement account statements is becoming a painful endeavor, or if you don't even have a retirement account you need to read this book.
