32% of Q1 U.S. smartphone sales involved prepaid phones, up from 21% a year ago, says NPD. That trend could spell trouble for AT&T (T) and Verizon Wireless (VZ, VOD), whose recent growth has been heavily tied to selling costly postpaid data plans. With 72% and 61% of the carriers' postpaid bases now respectively on smartphones, they face pressure to gain prepaid buyers without cannibalizing postpaid subs. Cannibalization fears have led AT&T and Verizon to make their prepaid plans 3G-only; Sprint (S) and T-Mobile (TMUS) offer 4G. A mix shift towards unsubsidized prepaid phones could also be a challenge for Apple (AAPL), estimated to have just 8% of the Q1 U.S. prepaid smartphone market (though that's up 4x Y/Y). I paid full pop for my iPad mini 4 g and get 2g of data for $30.00 no contract, if I could pay $650 for an iPhone 5s & get 2g data & a few hundred minutes & few hundred texts for $50 or $60 bucks a month I'd be all over that. Subsidized phones = hidden high interest rates for those of us with good credit and/or cash to pay up front.

Also if they can make it to 2016 in good shape with a giant cash hoard overseas who knows what the next president might do to entice corporate America to repatriate those dollars.
Tim Cook (AAPL) on the five-inch smartphone: "Our competitors have made some significant trade-offs in many of these areas in order to ship a larger display. We would not ship a larger display iPhone while these trade-offs exist." He adds that if IDC's right, the smartphone market declined 30% since December, so Apple's decline of 15% beat the market. Most men carry a bulbous 2# wallet, I think we can handle a 5" iPhone
Really weird that Apple & Apple purists have been so against a bigger iPhone. As an Apple consumer & small time investor IMO this is one of companies biggest failures.
How many S3 & Note 2s where bought by potential iPhone users due to screen size? How many iPhone 5 purchases where reluctantly made to stay within iOS?
Even as an Apple house, Apple TV, iPads, iPods, iPod touch, My family will never pay for an expensive data plan only to be consumed on a 4" screen.

Is Apple Using Share Buybacks To Support Its Stock Price? [View article]
I doubt Apple is interested in supporting short term investors. Tim Cook's Apple same as Steve Jobs' Apple, indifferent to short & long term investor worries, they feel if they run their business as they see fit stock price will find its level.
Add Brian White to the growing list of Apple (AAPL -1.3%) fans who think a bigger iPhone is needed. "We are being told that the minimum size needed by Apple is a 4.5-inch display on the iPhone; however, a 5-inch to 5.5-inch would be optimal," writes the Topeka analyst after talking with Chinese/Taiwanese suppliers. Also: Cowen sees more room for iPad growth in the U.S., citing encouraging survey data, and BTIG's Walter Piecyk, who recently upgraded Apple, thinks a new capital-allocation plan will be timed to coincide with a downbeat FQ2 report (results are due on April 23). "We believe that Apple (AAPL) will launch the iPhone 5S at China Mobile (CHL) this July, as it launches the next iteration of the iPhone globally," writes Wedge Partners' Brian Blair, without elaborating on his sources. The remarks come a little less than 3 months after Apple and China Mobile signed a confidentiality agreement. Blair sees a 5S model supporting China Mobile's TD-SCDMA 3G network likely entering production in May. (WSJ report) [View news story]
1. yes I need a big iPhone. 2. no to an 8" phone 3. 4% dividend would be good to get big value funds buying 4. Yes & An app to screen calls while caller is leaving a message would be nice. 5. More content for my Apple TV hockey puck, also have it control all my 50" cheap Vizio TV & put a mini Mac in it, I'd pay $1000.00 to $1200.00 for that
Are we in a bubble, depends on the zip code. My guess if interest rates stay low this will be nice little bubbles very soon for communities with good schools, jobs & low crime but it won't be like 2005 Also the builders have already dusted off their backhoes so they will help satisfy demand sooner than later.
