  • John Hussman: The Elephant In The Room [View article]
    John,

    You must be mistaken...

The new Fed chairwoman testified to Congress there is no bubble and that the stock market was reasonably valued and everyone should be buying stocks......

Of course, if you are right, we may be witnessing a first...a Fed chairperson who has no credibility on the first day she takes office........so then how effective will Fed statements to the market be in restoring confidence?

  • Apple: Stop The Dividend [View article]
I agree with basic tenet that share buybacks are a better long term efficient use of capital than dividends for a unique company like Apple. However, the more shares bought back the less in dividends Apple will pay out due to reduced share count.

I believe management was sold a 'bill of goods' on dividends with the argument at the time being that if a dividend was paid out it would attract dividend buyers/mutual funds.

Long term the highest EPS will be realized with the lowest share count outstanding.

  • What iPhone 5 Discounts Could Mean [View article]
speculation....what it could mean....or maybe what it could not mean....

When management is capable and intelligent, management makes decisions based on facts and good business judgement...

when hedgies want to short apparently all it takes is fear and speculation (negative of course) and could or maybes.....

this type of article does not create credibility.

I have the greatest of respect for your writings as the positions taken by you are based on facts and not hype.

One issue I would note with
Vlo is that when oil prices go up the margins of the refiners tend to get squeezed...which would offset any positive natural gas expense decreases..

    Any thoughts?

  • Chipotle: Growth At Any Price? [View article]
CMG is substantially likely to be the netflix stock of 2011....it has the same loudmouthed tv commentator hyping cmg whowas hyping neftflix at 275 before it collapsed...

Once again over 100% of the stock is owned by institutions which strongly suggests collusive, manipulative stock behavior which the SEC appears willing to accept..be it legal or illegal...

Whomever wants to tie up their capital in the last few dollars of cmg stock increase is disregarding the concepts of risk and reward...and when a David Einhorn like hedge fund manager comes out and announces that cmg is his favorite short for 2012 there will be a lot of managers running for the exits of a very small door..

When the technicals collapse (as the fundamentals clearly do not support the stock price) the acceleration in selling and lack of any buyers will not be pretty.

    Excellant analysis and article.

  • The Natural Gas Dilemma [View article]
The real question is when the long term prices($4.+) in long term markets come down to below cost of production which will finally cause companies to shut down wells when long term hedging price goes below cost of production....short term price has become irrelevant...

oh come on....next you are going to tell us that you do not blindly follow every loud mouth ranting and raving financial tv commentator who pounds the table for companies selling over sixty to eighty times earnings and then when the prices collapses blames the management....how are we suppose to lose money if we don't follow these "experts?"

    Happy new year.

an update for those who tell others to do research without basis:

GMCR Chief executive officer SEC filings form 4:

9/21/11 SOLD 45000 shares of stock @111 (approx)

10/18/11 SELLS another 45000 shares of stock @ approx. 80

sounds like a true believer....whatever he knows I would sure like to know....any person putting money into this stock with the issues overhanging the company and an insider at the level of chief executive officer dumping his stock needs to talk to a fellow I know selling a bridge in Brooklyn.

Wise man...you may want to look at SEC filing by company this spring in connection with stock issuance which specifically noted material weakness in accounting controls...the obvious reason for this being important is if a company is filing financial information which is obviously material for an investor making an investment decision and then in the same presentation the company indicates it has a material weakness in its accounting which obviously effects the integrity of the financial information being presented...the conclusion is obvious..

Now the more important issue is how can the SEC allow a stock offerring to go forward with the types of issues noted in that filing...incompetency or .....???

Ignorance is blissful...if you had done your homework...some factual allegations relate to earlier this year...right before the approx. one billion dollar stock offering...it is ignorant to recommend a stock with this type of risk to others....unless you have a financial interest?

    where is the SEC?

for those of you who worship kramer...a few weeks ago he was telling his viewers to load up on netflix when it was $285-300.00/share....e... said...

as for green mountain the allegations in greenlight capital's presentation are serious and material...some based on testimony of ex-employees which if true represent intentional misrepresentations of material facts by management (legal definition of fraud)....

with all the other good companies an investor can invest in why would any reasonably intelligent investor risk investing in this company until all of these allegations are cleared up?

first rule of investing ...don't lose your capital....
