  • OEMs Face 20% Higher Hardware Costs To Support Microsoft Vista  [View article]
It amazes me that Davis Freeberg would base his analysis of Vista on such simplistic trash, and then compound the mistake by implying deception on the part of Microsoft. It is not exactly earthshaking news that new OS and more powerful capabilities would require more powerful hardware. Inflation-adjusted hardware costs have actually gone down since the last OS release. Even were this not true, smart companies would base upgrade decisions on anticipated workflow improvements and reduced people costs. What is $100 compared to the cost of office labor today? The big story here is one of GROWTH. Vista will be much more difficult to pirate, which should lead to far greater sales in emerging countries.
