  • Drivers Of The U.S Airline Industry  [View article]
I got into southwest (LUV) long term really high at 9.37 and 9.70. Now I'm wondering if I should just hold or cut my losses. I'm a pretty new investor and bought it because LUV fundamentals were pretty good and they recently got permission to turn one of their main centers Houston hobby airport (HOU) into an international airport for international flights...but that will come to pass only in 2015. So don't know if buying LUV was the best choice with all the volatilty in the market due to fuel prices. Also, everyone I started talking to says the airline industry is one of the worst industries to invest long term..

  • QE3: Reluctantly Long The Market  [View article]
This country is so accustomed to comforts and doesn't want to learn the hard way before it's too late. They think they can keep kicking the bucket down the line. 2008 could have been a year where the bad apples would have been dumped and let correction take place.

  • Every iPhone 5 unit may look the same, but Apple (AAPL) is actually producing 3 different models, so as to address the 7 4G LTE frequency bands being used globally. AT&T will sell a North American GSM model, Verizon and Sprint will sell a CDMA model, and foreign carriers will sell an international GSM model. Selling different models should lower Apple's component costs a bit, and is a slight negative for top RF component supplier Skyworks (SWKS -1.4%). (more on iPhone 5[View news story]
Not a big fan of any apple product and never understood why everyone was going gaga over something that I could always find functionality from a cheaper alternative. The only time I started liking everyone going gaga over iPhone and iPad and other Apple products was when I bought their stock and have around 30% of my portfolio in AAPL stock. Even today I was talking to a coworker who said that he is upgrading from 4s to 5 because "It's 4S dude!" and I couldn't help laughing with my friend who also owns AAPL stock telling him "man, I love people like you!!!"

  • Southwest Airlines (LUV +3.5%) raises its air fares on shorter flights, prompting a flurry of corresponding ticket price hikes by legacy carriers such as American Airlines (AAMRQ.PK), United Continental (LCC +5.4%), and US Airways (LCC +4.9%). Last week a hike by Delta (DAL +2.9%) didn't take hold across the sector, which is nothing new with low-cost carriers such as Southwest, JetBlue (JBLU +3.4%), Spirit (SAVE +1.5%), and Allegiant (ALGT +1.6%) typically acting as the trendsetters for the group.  [View news story]
Is this a good long term move or a bad one for LUV?
