  • Bristol-Myers Squibb Preview: Performance Of New Drugs Is Key [View article]
Sold BMY... was great while I held it with a great dividend and greater during this spring rally. But it felt like it was getting too pricy with a high PE, high payout ratio and low growth forecast. Patient cliffs and low growth forecast caused sizable high single digit dips last summer. I thought that it might be a good time now to book profits and put it somewhere else. If BMY doesn't meet analysts expectations or if they project low growth or guidence, my hunch is that the stock will take another plunge like last summer.

  • McDonald's Stock: Buy Or Sell? [View article]
I lived in the northeast (Connecticut) till late 2011 and would regularly drive from CT to NY via I-95. Coffee any size from McDonalds on I-95 (around a 125 mile stretch) was open 24 hours a day and charged at $1. I think it might have been a special offer but it was around for my entire time since I moved from Florida to CT (.i.e 2009). I'm now in TX and haven't tried MCD coffee yet as I like Chic-fila or shipley's ($1 for small, $1.50 for large) coffee better. I should try MCD coffee down here and see how it compares taste& price-wise. Though I love five guys and other premium burger places, I occasionally walk into different McDonald's and buy burger meals or new seasonal sandwitches to see if how the crowds and sales are going on. Having said that, I still do like the Angus Bacon 'n cheese and swiss cheese and also the double quarter pounder.... a $1 vanilla cone icecream is a cheap treat we usually splurge on.

  • Too Cheap To Ignore - It's Time To Buy EMC [View article]
After last year's summer drop, EMC (EMC) has been range bound to ~28/share. I own EMC but analysts have been forcasting EMC to go up to the 30s for quite sometime. I was going to sell at ~28 last year and get some good gains but analysts kept propping up the stock and it's been range bound since then. We'll have to see how the market responds to earnings. I guess I'll hold for some more time to see if the momentum changes the trend upwards. If it doesn't EMC will be on my list of stocks to sell by year end.

  • McDonald's Stock: Buy Or Sell? [View article]
Thanks for the analysis. I've lived in the middle east and immigrated from India and have seen how McDonalds (MCD) has customized itself into the local market making it one of the "cool" places to be at. I was surprised to see that McDonald's is considered "cheap" when I first came to the US because that's not the case in the middle east or India. I think there is lots of room for MCD to grow there and the media hasn't picked up on it yet. I don't know much about China either though I read that China has a lot of potential.

Been in the market since 24 and I'm now 31 so I've got some time to make wise investment decisions. MCD is one of my best investments and I've realized that it's those "boring" stocks like MCD which are giving me stable returns and appreciation in portfolio value as opposed to the hyped up . After some exposure to investing in companies through the market, I've learned that you can win the race slow and steady with boring stocks and you can be met with disappointment with the hyped up stocks of the season like AAPL or EMC. Wish I had bought more MCD when I did. Waiting for a market correction to occur to buy some dividend growth value stocks at low prices. MCD may not grow like it used to but it's got lots of potential in emerging markets so there is still some stability ahead. Looking for sizable dips. Anyway, can't be too greedy. I'm still learning and I think I'll fine tune my portfolio into a dividend growth model. I'll get rid of poor performers by year end and just maintain good value dividend growth stocks like MCD.

  • 5 Stocks With Solid Upside To Buy On Weakness [View article]
Has AAPL really bottomed? If earnings are bad....as in, does not meet sky high analyst predictions, then you may see the stock go a lot lower. We'll have to wait and see if AAPL will raise the dividend...then only will we know if they are investor friendly. I don't know what happened to their buyback program. I would suggest they do three investor friendly moves to prop up the stock till they have a new killer iProduct release - increase dividend, increase buyback and split the stock... but it seems they are not really concerned about shareholder interests.

  • A Fallen Apple Equals A Gift To Investors Even If Sales And Margins Decline [View article]
    acsatix,

"however from here really there cannot be a lot of downside and the upside is tremendous... so it is making me sleep quite well to be long today and tomorrow. "

We heard that when it dropped to 640, 570, 500, 419.... We've come to a point where it's following the way of MIcrosoft, Cisco and EMC. Fundamental metrics like PE don't matter any more as long as perception is bearish. The only way for perception to change from bearish to bullish is for AAPL to release a killer product or have two blow out quarters in a row and it seems AAPL has reached a climax when it comes to growth and a lot of it depends on how it leverages developing markets.

If the AAPL trend doesn't change by year end, I'm going to sell some of my losses to offset capital gains. That cash is better invested elsewhere when a sizable correction happens... lots of "boring" stocks are performing quite well during this spring rally.

  • A Fallen Apple Equals A Gift To Investors Even If Sales And Margins Decline [View article]
    Money invested,

"The fact people keep overlooking, or just don't give enough value to, is the cash Apple has and will continue building"

They already have close to $150,000,000,000. So are shareholders getting any benefit with all that cash? What's the use? A fraction of that cash hoard could be better spent bailing out cyprus and a few other broke EU debt slaves preventing the stock market sliding down. I mean, what else is happening with all that cash? Whatever happened to that buyback promise? I think this stock will go the way of Microsoft, emc and Cisco.

Sorry for all the typos.... Writing this from a nexus 10 which I bought after I returned my iPad 4 because the nexus 10 is slightly better and 20% cheaper than an ipad4

Nice article. Thanks for the write up. What do you say about participating in the housing recovery by owning high dividend paying REITs? I own Dynex Capital (DX) - any opinions on this stock?

  • Shares of McDonald's (MCD +1.3%) set fresh 52-week highs as the restaurant operator's uninspiring streak of flattish global same-store sales doesn't scare off investors. What to watch: The company hasn't disclosed yet if it expects an impact on sales in Asia from the H7N9 avian virus in China so its Q1 earnings report could take on some added significance[View news story]
I have some money to put into dividend growth stocks and can't find any stock that's close to its 52 week lows with PE less than 18 and low payout ratio like when I bought MCD last november.

My most recent purchases fitting that criteria were ABBV at ~33, MCD at ~86, COP at ~52 an ~57 and PSX during its dip at 62 (went out of my investing rules for PSX as I think they'll increase dividends and do a lot of buybacks). I also bought DX today at 10.50.

MCD has been great. I wish I could see more stocks like MCD when I bought it returning at ~3.5% yield... can't find any in the market with that kind of yield and meeting my long term investment criteria. Hope they do a stock split.

  • EMC: Can't Ignore The 'On Sale' Share Price [View article]
thanks for the info... I guess I'll hold a bit more and see if there is some momentum towards the 200 ma. I feel like I'm holding a stock that's going no where and you don't get anything in return for holding it either.

  • EMC Is Too Cheap To Ignore And It Just Hit The 'Buy Zone' [View article]
I don't know... after buying EMC on the dip last year and forgoing the decision to sell at 28, I feel this is a value trap. They need to do some investor friendly moves like buybacks and add a dividend. I might sell and use the capital loss during tax time and use that cash on some other dividend stock. I think this stock is stuck between 23 and ~25 for a long time to come.
