  • In a letter leaked to newspapers, Caterpillar (CAT) CEO Doug Oberhelman presses Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn to roll back recent corporate tax hikes. "I want to stay here," writes Oberhelman of the company's home state, but "I have to do what's right for Caterpillar," implying the company may shift jobs or its HQ elsewhere.

IL also passed tax laws that caused Amazon to drop all IL affiliates. IL has to be one of the most unfriendly states for businesses. They just spend and spend and expect everyone to open their pocketbooks for the politicians. Oh, I forgot, its Obama's home court. It's really too bad that we exported the crony, give me all of your money Chicago politics to DC.

In the end, no business will voluntarily exist in IL and it will become a cesspool of low life's dependent on government for everything.

  • Economic Collapse Is Accelerating [View article]
Our only hope is that there are too many pessimists for Obama to send the union thugs after. I guess with the full power of the Treasury he can buy a lot of support.

For the preprogrammed Democrats here, if your really want to understand the situation, just think how you would respond if Bush had used the same tactics to implement his policies. You know, ignoring town hall meetings, shouting down dissenters, demonizing the source of ideas, and holding press conferences giving outright lies to the people. You think Bush lied, well, Obama lies almost every day and its provable.

You see the tactics are un-American whether you believe the philosophy or not. And once the tactics are successful, they work for any ideology even one you disagree with. Please start thinking more than one step ahead.

  • The House's package of spending cuts would "undermine and damage our capacity to create jobs and expand the economy," warns Geithner, who refused to comment on whether the government could face a shutdown over a budget impasse.  [View news story]
What a load of crap. It barely touches the waste and corruption that exists in Washington. I for one am tired of the gimme, gimme, and gimme some more money management philosophy in Washington.

  • After thousands of jobs and billions in lost wages since the Gulf of Mexico drilling moratorium, why is Pres. Obama encouraging Brazil to drill for oil while failing to do the same in the U.S.? (video: I, II)  [View news story]
Obama wants everyone to like him. In the US, the awe is automatic by the media, no action required. But in the rest of the world, he has found that their media are more discerning, don't swoon to his rapturous voice, and that he has to buy them with some acceptable actions to make up for his terrible first two years where he thought he could fool them like he does the American media.

smlcap, the democrats hold a lot of responsibility for this mess. Remember they have been in charge of congress for over two years. Remember transparency, now its transparency next time. Remember no pork, now its no pork next time. In September 2003, Frank, then the ranking Democrat on the Financial Services Committee, opposed a Bush administration proposal for transferring oversight of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac from Congress.

If you think with the new president its going to get better, then history says you are sadly wrong. When will you ideologues get it, power corrupts, without a media watchdog power corrupts absolutely. The new president has no watchdog and will be as or more corrupt than his predecessor.

  • No Chance of a 'V' Recovery [View article]
The conclusion seems reasonable, but the reasons, seem overstated. Manufacturing has not been a factor in the economy for years and here it is 2 of 5 reasons. This might have applied 15 years ago, but not today, especially with the permanent decimation of the auto industry.

Manufacturing is now done in Asia, America only does light assembly. Government laws preclude any real manufacturing and hence preclude the generation of real wealth.

Government laws preclude any new mining (including oil extraction) and hence preclude any increase in real wealth.

Government laws preclude the economic generation of power.

Until these change America will struggle as the middle and lower classes will increasingly not have the opportunity to provide for their family.

You can thank the socialist/communist environmental and "save the planet" organizations working with the corrupt power grabbers in Washington. Its a wonderful partnership from their standpoint. Its coupled with the fact that most American's have been educated to ignore common sense and the foundations that made American great. It will be their children that suffer and the 80's and 90's generations will go to their graves around 2050 - 2080 realizing they made a big mistake because they wanted to feel good instead of really do good.

To really do good, one has to look at and minimize the unintended consequences of every action. A frightful idea for any liberal, socialist, or communist.

  • House leaders will offer a new budget proposal to provide $100B in cuts after conservatives denounced an earlier plan with fewer cuts. But politicians won't do it and shouldn't do it; even as most Americans say they support cutting government programs, they don’t realize just how much they benefit from them.  [View news story]
Exactly, the people have been bought and the government spending will not end until there is no country and no money. Its a virus that is guaranteed to kill its host.

  • Wall Street's curmudgeon-in-chief, Third Point's Dan Loeb, pens a letter critical of the President. A former Obama supporter, Loeb is turned off by the President's "smack downs" on successful Americans, otherwise "known as the 2%." His holiday gift for Obama's true believers: "He's Just Not That Into You."  [View news story]
The angry people want to punish the successful people. Welcome to hope and change. I guess as long as they have a new kitchen paid for by the government it'll be ok, no matter the long term consequences.

The part that I don't get is where will the money come from when the successful people are destroyed or forced out. When there is no more money what are you going to think when we have to start a war because we'll need the booty to stop the riots.

  • From Obama's weekly address: "When we receive our monthly job report next week, it is likely to show that we are continuing to lose far too many jobs in this country. As far as I’m concerned, we will not have a recovery as long as we keep losing jobs. And I won’t rest until every American who wants a job can find one."  [View news story]

Then you must be really upset with Obama as he has made Bush's deficit spending look like child's play. Bush spent to protect American's, whether you believe it or not. Obama spent to reward his political buddies and those crooks on Wall Street, at the same time ignoring main street except for rhetoric.

  • "Bernanke is a murderer, he’s a murderer of the middle class and the working class," Marc Faber says in a King World News interview. "If you print money everything will go up... it goes into equities and for Mr. Bernanke unfortunately into commodities. And this is lifting the cost of living of the median household, of the typical household in the U.S."  [View news story]
But with our union teachers, they have taught everyone that printing money is free money and free money does not hurt anyone. So don't expect any epiphany from either the Fed or the voters.

    Welcome to hope and change.

  • The Ibanez Case and Housing-Market Catastrophe Risk [View article]
Just read the referenced court document and all I can say is well done. The court got it right. The banks in MA have the power to foreclose without judicial oversight provided they follow the rules. The banks did not follow the rules and were caught. Not only did they not follow the rules for these two foreclosures but for most the property transfers. Now all of the banks (loan holders) will be scrambling to get the documents corrected. If they do, then foreclosures will start anew, no big deal, unless the organizations that were supposed to convey the property no longer exists. In that case, the banks may have lost ownership of the property and the homeowner gets the property free and clear. This works for me. Don't follow the rules, then suffer the consequences.

  • Apple (AAPL) is proving to be as good at avoiding taxes (here and internationally) as it is at designing smartphones, taking advantage of tax laws designed for the industrial, not the digital economy.  The company had an overall tax rate of less than 10% in 2011, vs. about a 24% average for non-tech companies, reports the NYT, seemingly laying out a blueprint for politicians to shift attacks from big oil to big tech. Ugh.  [View news story]
schatzl, there is nothing moral about taxes. If there were, then the high profile hollywood nuts would volunteer to give more. They don't. Its all a con resulting from indoctrination. The purpose is to get people like you to be outraged when people don't fall in line and pay homage to the government and its corrupt and crooked ways.

Taxes are simply theft from those that have worked hard for success to give to low-lifes and voters of a particular persuasion.

In reality Apple, should not be taxes at all. Every penny that Apple makes is paid out to someone, either investors, employees, or suppliers. The suppliers then pay it out again to investors, employees, or suppliers. Eventually there are no more suppliers and the money just goes to employees and investors. At each step employees and investors are taxed. So taxing Apple is double taxation and its killing our economy.

So, schatzl, be outraged, or be informed. But remember to be informed is to go against many years of government indoctrination by union teachers that only want you to be a Democrat follower, in bed with racism and class warfare, and pay homage to the Democrat political elite who don't care one bit for you.
