First, let me say that our prayers go out to all the victims of the Newton, Conn. school shooting. No one should have to deal with this type of senseless violence.

Parents would have to deal with a lot less violence if the government would look at reality and not ideology with respect to guns.

The reality is that almost all these senseless shootings have occurred in "gun free" zones. In almost all cases, a crime was committed before a single shot was fired. Where were the police? Where were the teachers? Where were the administrators? Where was the protection of our children?

It is a known fact that the police cannot protect our children or any of us. Their job is deterrence and punishment. So if we leave the protection of our children to the police, we will see more and more of this type of violence. And if the violence is not committed with guns, then these coward criminals will use knives, swords, poison or whatever happens to be available (maybe a car).

Any rational person would ask themselves, why do these criminals not prefer gun shops, shooting ranges, police stations, etc?

The answer is that these and most coward criminals want to prey on the weak. That begs the question about why we (as a Nation) continue to put our children at risk by giving them absolutely no protection.

It is time to defend our children and force schools to train teachers and administrators in how to handle guns. Do we need a gun in every classroom? No. But, we need to let the coward criminals know that they are not walking into a defenseless shooting gallery when they walk into a school. If teachers and administrators are properly trained and willing, they should be allowed to have and carry guns in school.

We send people to die to protect American's in all corners of the world. Why is it that teachers and administrators are not willing to do what is necessary to protect our children? Maybe they too are cowards and afraid to protect themselves and our children by hiding behind an ideology that has no basis in reality.

It is time to recognize that the Constitution applies to teachers and students in our schools.

Disclosure: I am long [[RGR]], [[SWHC]].
