Born and raised in Georgia, year of birth 1955. Retired from Federal Civil Service 1 Oct 2011 (23 years with DOD and eight years active duty, which I bought back to make the time creditable). Active duty Air Force (enlisted) from 12 Jan 79 to 29 Nov 1986, honorably discharged). Worked at Dover AFB DE from 1988 to 2004, then at McChord AFB WA from 2005 until Sep 2011. Currently reside in Delaware. Started investing in the early 1980's when I was on active duty, the DJIA was in the high 700's and low 800's. Found a mutual fund company, Twentieth Century (now American Century), that had no minimum investment to get started. Accumulated a few shares and then sold in early 1987, so I had a good introduction to the investing ...More process. I am definitely a buy-and-hold investor. I love to read pretty much anything to do with business and investing. I try to use being a small investor to my advantage, obvious things like not having to worry about beating the market or making a predetermined return. Being able to buy and hold without any pressure. Buying a few I-Bonds here and there, which is not a factor in a large portfolio because of the annual purchase limitations, but can make a real difference in a smaller portfolio. I am very comfortable with my investments and feel no pressure to do anything because of day to day price fluctuations. I'm a big fan of Warren Buffett, Jack Bogle, James Grant, and Jim Rogers, among others.
