I agree. The housing booms of the 1940's and '50's came from the need to house industrial workers, not the other way around. Indeed, the expansions of housing in the 80's and 90's were also attributed to increased economic activity in other sectors. When housing finally began to drive the economy in these last 10 years, snakelike, it began to consume it's own vital organs in the financial industry. As the son of a developer, I know that housing is a good business, but it's not in the drivers seat of the economy as is manufacturing.
