  • Apple, Android Now Make Up 75% of U.S. Smartphone Web Traffic [View article]
I'm having difficulty with the authors data. Nokia has 46% of the smart phones world wide, and I doubt they use iPhones operating system. iPhone represents less than 8% of sales world wide, yet your data shit shows that iPhone to have 50% of the operating systems. What is your source for this data?

  • Why a Market Crash Doesn’t Matter [View article]
A very long article to say "it's a market of stocks, not a stock market".

As commentor "j-dub" suggests your next article will probably be "Why mass social unrest doesn't matter."

Good Luck traders, don't loose your fear, as that is what happened in '29, '87, and again in '89. I wasn't around for the '29 crash, however I was for the '87 and '89...it wasn't pretty and I watched the law suits go on for years afterward. As an "expert witness" in the area of stock options, I saw all the horror stories.

As UBS analyst Art Cashin says, the market will embarrass the most people, and it looks like it is on its way.

A guest on CNBC this morning made a point that the public is still out of the market and it is only the traders pumping up the market. When the momentum slows, they will jump out leaving a large vacuum. So be careful and don't loose your fear of the market.

  • A Worm in the Apple? [View article]
While I have never used the Bollinger Band theory, I do understand what the author is saying about the magazine cover. Its the kiss of death for a stock. For those of you who are not supersticious, there is no need to worry. For those of us that have seen it happen too many times in the past the cover and story comes at a time when the stock has hit a new high on less than exciting news and a less than exciting economy. Apples computer sales are soft, the iPod has no exciting new models, and the iPhone seems to have a new competitor coming on the market every week. Verizon has also been doing a very good job of showing people why they should be using a smart phone on their system and not ATT (the carrier for the iPhone). So no one compelling reason to say Apple has topped out, but many small reasons to make the case. As we all know stock price is a function of anticipation. Look at the stock market since March, stocks have priced in an economic recovery which has yet to show it self. While I currently have no position in Apple, long or short, I suggest people still long the stock do as the author of this article suggests, look into ways to protect your positions in the stock.

  • Priceline: Are Shorts Grasping at Straws? [View article]
Good article, realisticly thought out. Two thoughts to add (1) As I've mentioned about other stocks the old saying "trees don't grow to the sky and neither do stocks" applies to this stock, too. (2) Momentum stocks are just that, and when the momentum slows, everyone will bail. As the author suggests however, when will that be? A final thought, if what the author says is true and the short interest is down, the thought that comes to mind for the "momentum longs" in this stock, sell to who?

  • Apple to Open 50 More Stores - Let's Be Careful, Steve [View article]
I'm not an Apple hater. I'm just trying to keep people like you in reality mode! People get into these "euphoric stupors" and have no fear of the market and find themselves in trouble because of it.

  • Apple to Open 50 More Stores - Let's Be Careful, Steve [View article]
I remember walking into the new (at the time) Sharper Image store that had just opened around the corner from my office in Chicago many years ago. I was in awe of the upscale toys they had. The gadgets were great, and there were several that I just had to have. As time went on, the intervals between visits grew longer, the products less awe inspiring and the number of stores became more numerous. With a store now in most large cities, product introductions less exciting, are the Apple stores going to go the way of the Sharper Image?

  • How Apple and iPhone Blew It in China [View article]
I find it interesting that Apple has chosen to go with the number 2 in coverage in the US and now in China. Obviously they got a better financial deal with the number 2 carriers and decided to sacrifice quality of service for the extra "bucks".

The China introduction certainly hasn't helped the price of their stock, its been a non-event so far.

I worry that Apple is neglecting their computer line while they push their phone, and as we have all seem before the competition in the cell phone market can be brutal. People can be in love with a phone one minute and moving on to the next hot phone the next, especially when the coverage is so poor. I have more than a few friends that have iPhones and they have tried to show me some cool new app. they have downloaded, only to sit there while their phone is trying to get service.

Again, I think Apple needs to spend some more time and effort on their other product lines, or their stock is going to suffer.

  • How Apple's Market Share Will Propel Stock to $500, Part 2 [View article]
Time to give it a break Jason. The market is awash in smartphones and while none to date has caught the fancy of the public enough to de-throne the consumer driven iPhone (although that new Mototola might do it). The other problem for Apple is the company is letting their MAC lines get old. They are pushing their toys and letting the staple of their line go stale. Trees don't grow to the sky and neither do stocks.

  • Financial Regulation: How Would You Have It Work? [View article]
The was a great law in place that was removed during the Clinton Admiinistration because it was said to "hinder" the banking industries competitiveness. The Glass Steagall Act was a way to separate the banking and investment firms. It was a good idea and should be reimplimented.

  • Why Apple Is Worth $80 [View article]
Very lengthly way to say "trees don't grow to the sky and neither do stocks". But you won't convince the "Apple faithful" as there is no rational to their thinking. Apple is a one trick pony and riding the crest of the wave right now. Let the company loose the favor of guys like Cramer and the stock will be at the price you predict.

  • How Apple's Market Share Will Propel Stock to $500, Part 1 [View article]
Jason Schwartz is not doing the investing public any favors. To say that the stock will be worth $500 per share is illogical. Do the math $500 per share times 800,000,000 shares if you don't have a calculator that can handle that may 0's it's $400,000,000,000.00

That's four hundred billion dollars, it would seem Jason is watching too many govenment interviews where they through around numbers like that as if it were pocket change.

My advice is watch your investment carefully, don't get greedy, and get out when this momentum fades.

As a professional in the investment business for more than 37 years, I can tell you the enthusiasm for this stock will not last for ever and Jason is like all the analysts predicting the stock will go to the sky, this is a self serving prediction, just be careful.

  • Verizon Launches Direct Ad Attack Against the iPhone  [View article]
It was only a matter of time before someone took the iPhone's concept and put some real muscle into a phone. Apple has been riping off people with a cheap phone and lots of hype, now it looks like Motorola is coming to market with a power house. Hope they make it user friendly.

  • RIM Faces Growing Competition from Apple and Palm [View article]
The Apple "faithful" seem to need to make it a competition between their iPhone vs. whatever other product. In reality, RIMM's products are still selling well, they have expanded into the consumer market (read that the iPhone market) and I feel the lack of growth is more a result of a slow economy and a ten percent unemployment rate vs. a switch to a competitor. Sorry TechCrunch, I'm just not convinced your arument is valid. I feel the economy is finally catching up to the smart phone market. And I feel we will be seeing the same thing happening to the rest of this niche market.
