  • ARMOUR Residential (ARR -2.1%) gets hit with a huge sell order (check out the volume here). Fresh off a July 9 secondary (it's 3rd in 8 months!), the stock has flown right past that decline to new 52-week highs. Look for another "huge" secondary, says Dividend Master, estimating the stock trades at a 14% premium to book value. Shares +9% YTD with a 15.6% annualized dividend.  [View news story]
And why quote some random 'dividend master' off of Twitter? Smells like someone had a short play on...

  • Why Great Northern Iron Ore Is Overvalued [View article]
Fascinating article. Still tempting to give it a try due to the crazy yields, but it would require some attention and definite stop-loss protection.

  • Retirement: 'Enjoyment Without Employment' By Taking The Path That Works Best, Forever (Part 10) [View article]
"Whatever the reason might be, most investors fail, and they either blame the system or feel that the "game" is rigged."

This is one of the major reasons that the retail investor has remained on the sidelines for the last few years..

  • Why Dividend Growth Is More Important Than Yield (Don't Be A Yield Vigilante) [View article]
One concern I have with most articles like this is that they seem to have a built-in assumption that one will purchase a stock and then be stuck with it forever, unable to ever change one's mind. In that scenario, sure -- it makes sense to go for lower perceived risk and volatility. But it's not 1920 anymore and moving from a faltering stock to a different one takes all of 30 seconds. Keeping trades to a minimum is still a good idea, and it is prudent to think things through before making a purchase, but no decisions are locked-in.

I understand that it's easier to backtest if you use a buy-and-hold assumption, but still...

Regarding dividend growth, if I regularly (annually) switch from lower to higher-yielding dividend stocks, wouldn't that completely offset any possible dividend growth from lower yielding stocks?

  • Outsourcing isn't the problem... It’s that the prosperity of America’s big businesses - really global networks that happen to be headquartered in the U.S. - has become disconnected from the well-being of most Americans, Robert Reich writes. "Without a government that’s focused on more and better jobs, we’re left with global corporations that don’t give a damn."  [View news story]
You really should read the article before commenting. I found it a thought-provoking piece covering education and infrastructure as well as globalization.

  • Protected Principal Retirement Strategy: Retiring Without A Million-Dollar Nest Egg [View article]
Lots worried about risk here, and yet I see some of those dividend 'champions' who have taken 40+% haircuts in the last five years. How is that not risk? Sure, stay the course, don't sell, the dividend is still there. And yet imagine what the average retiree will think when they see their portfolio shrink by half in just a few months!

  • Plump 14.40% Dividend Yielding Stock For Retirees [View article]
Why 'crushed'? Why not merely 'disappointed?' Why would you presume that those invested in REITs would stay fully invested and never move their money over to dividend stocks with less sensitivity to rising interest rates? All it takes is a few clicks. It's not as if inflation will go from 1.5% to 10% overnight and catch everyone off-guard....

  • Save On REIT Taxes With Hatteras Financial Corp. [View article]
How would this compare to simply holding the stock, collecting all the dividends and reinvesting them, offsetting any capital gains with the same carry-forward losses from previous years? Seems like the result would be similar with a lot less work or fees...
