The food-away-from-home growth trend which started in the early 1970's, peaked and flattened about 3 years ago. The majority of sales growth is generated by inflation and market-share. The pie isn't getting any bigger.

Todd (and readers), I'd appreciate your thoughts and comments; I've been looking closely at MLP's lately, and am considering EPD, ETP, MWE, or PAA. I'm leaning toward EPD because of it's consistent dividend growth. Any additional insight would be appreciated!

The comments on ITC Holdings are absurd. Over-valued because of the PE ratio of 21, and the yield of 2%??? Neither metric have anything to do with being over-valued or not. Best to wait and buy when the stock is below $60??? It hasn't been below $60 since September of 2010. Great company, but horrible article.

While the idea of selling puts seems like a good way of getting into a stock at a "target" price, or at least, getting paid a premium for trying,
the fact is, you should never buy a stock that is trending down. That is one of the most fundamental rules of trading. 3 out of 4 stocks trend the overall market, and you should only buy a stock when the overall market is in an uptrend, and your particular stock has broken out of a sound base. I read that advise literally for years before I really started practicing it, but it is true. So, it is really contradictory to sell puts to get a stock at a target price, when you know that stocks should only be bought on the way up.

With so many profitable, financially solid companies in growing industries available, why would one want to invest in such a dismal company in a no-growth industry? I've never understood the logic in this. Why buy garbage when there is so much quality elsewhere to invest in?
