  • Finally Sold My Position in Dell [View article]
Dell is in slow growth mode and the deal to buy Perot today signals that. Question is how much longer will Dell make the hardware as they try to transition to a services company like IBM. Problem I see is that this appears to be a catch up play. HP gets EDS so Dell buys Perot. HP got a market leader and Dell got an also ran.

  • Will Dell Succeed with New Device? Doubtful [View article]
How is a generic box maker going to make an innovative mobile internet device. The answer is poorly or not at all. Since I am short Dell all I can hope for is that they make this attempt or buy Palm. Either way it is a bloodbath for Dell shareholders. Michael Dell could make generic PCs in his dorm room but what else has he done. PC box making is moving to China and Dell has no value add to the consumer. Why buy a dell when you can buy some generic PC like an Acer for cheaper.

    Ba-bye Michael Dell

    From 1997

When it comes to the state of Apple Computer, everyone has an opinion.
And at the Gartner Symposium and ITxpo97 here today, the CEO of competitor Dell Computer added his voice to the chorus when asked what could be done to fix the Mac maker. His solution was a drastic one.
"What would I do? I'd shut it down and give the money back to the shareholders," Michael Dell said before a crowd of several thousand IT executives.

PS: Hay Mikey, Please give the money you currently have back to the shareholders as soon as possible. Steve Jobs must laugh at Michael Dell's half ass quote every day.

  • Will Dell Buy Palm? [View article]
This deal smacks of desperation on Dell's part since they are now just a generic PC box maker and want in on phones. Palm is probably going out of business next year. The Pre while interesting is mostly hype to get a buy out for palm. They only sold about 50,000 phones at launch. Why? does Palm not have the cash to make more or did they do this to creat hype.

Dumb move of the year was jumping the gun and releasing the phone a week before Apple's WWDC. Apple comes out with a new OS, better phone and then drops the 3G to $99 versus Palms $299 - $100 rebate. 50,000 apps to 18 apps.

Dell please buy Palm so you are further distracted from computers.

Think about this, if Dell went out of business next week would anyone be that upset. You could still buy a generic PC from HP or Acer or any of the other computer makers.

No value add = no future. See ya Dell

  • Dell a Potential Double - Analyst [View article]
Dell is a dog that is having margin issues. They are cutting prices to compete with the far east. They are shutting down their factories and moving to third party assembly. Dell has no retail or store presence so repairs for people are nightmare,

Dell is just a generic box maker that will soon be gone since Lenovo Acer and other asian companies will eat their lunch. Plus Dell has cut prices which they will never be able to raise back. Apple has held the line during this mess and can cut prices if they want and take share or just wait out the downturn and make fat profits now and bigger one if the market turns.

If Dell makes a phone then look out below

  • Calling for a Palm - Dell Union [View article]
Dell please buy Palm. Once you waste 2.5 billion on that purchase, fail with the phones maybe Dell will finally kick the bucket. They are headed that way whether they buy Palm or not. Anyone can build a PC so generic PC's will all be built in 3rd world countries. The generic PC is going the way of the TV to soon all be made by the far east countries. No need for the Dell brand when you can get an asus or acer or the wok pc

  • Dell Gets Ready for a Comeback - Barron's  [View article]
Dell has 8.3 billion in cash .74 in short term investments
Dell has 8.3 billion in accounts payable and 1.9 billion in long term debt.

Thus the cash is spoken for and not $5 per share as reported. As Dell races to make cheaper and cheaper generic pc products they compete on price by using cheaper labor cheaper parts and less customer service. This is a disaster for the shareholder as market share is not what you want. Profit is. That is why apple with small market share has almost as much revenue as dell and 7 times the profit.

    Buyer beware on this stock.

  • Dell: Pointing Fingers, or Pointing Up? [View article]
Didn't Apple just announce their best earnings in company history last quarter and they only sell toys and high priced gear to Apple fanboys. Guess selling generic computers as cheap as possible is a better strategy. Dell appears to be winning the race to the bottom.

  • Dell Q4: Far Short of Estimates [View article]
It looks like they have a boat load of cash but they have a ton of current liabilities which wipes out most of the cash. This company has no value add other than they are a generic box maker. All of that is headed overseas so there is no room for dell in the next 10 years. Sell now before people talk about back when Dell was $8 and now is worth nothing.

  • Apple vs. Dell: Capturing the Over 50 Crowd [View article]
My law office runs on macs and the best part is that I can be the IT guy with a little help from the Apple store and every employee I have had figured out the mac in a day or so.

I hope Dull makes a smartphone. Anyone that can assemble parts into a pc can do the same with a phone. Dell can then transition from a mediocre box maker into a mediocre phone maker. What can dull add to make the phone smart or any good.

  • Dell's Got a Demand Problem [View article]
Not only is it a demand problem but they are also cutting prices and cutting margins. Dell's big problem is no value ad to the computer. It is like a generic drug. Why buy Comtrex when you can buy the CVS brand. In Dell's case HP, Lenova, Acer, etc all make pcs and they all are pretty similar. Apple is the only computer that has a value ad which is the mac OS. Dell needs to add something useful. HP is trying to add touch to their computers but it still appears like a gimmick but at least they are trying to differentiate their brand.

The question is, if Dell went out of business would anyone miss them or could you just buy a similar computer from another PC maker.

  • Dell's Factory Sales: End of an Era [View article]
Maybe Michael Dell should sell the assets and give the money back to the shareholders. I am sorry, that is whay Michael Dell said about Apple before Apple's market cap became 3 times the size of Dell's

    Apple Maket cap 139.9 billion
    Dell Market Cap $39.5 billion

    Dell's new motto

Twice the sales for half the profit

Dell $16 billion in sales with $500 million profit last quarter
Apple $8 billion in sales with $1 billion in profit last quarter
