Actually I just went one step further and bought an S&P Semiconductors ETF. Good diversification and the investment rationale of low valuation still holds.

  • TMM Real Estate Development Plc REIT Bet On Ukraine EURO 2012 And Further [View instapost]
Anybody invested in TMM real estate?

    The latest portfolio valuation
    http://bit.ly/QItUra
says asset value is USD 407m.

Deducting total liabilities of USD 223m (as of H1 2012) leaves a NAV of USD 184m, with 51m shares (correct?), one gets a NAV/share of USD 3.6

The share price however is at €0.18, i.e. $0.23 not even a tenth.
    Anybody can explain?

  • Mongolia Investment Climate At The Moment: Uh-Oh [View article]
Thanks. I just read the perspective of BDSec on the concrete & cement company. Very convincing. The fact that the (rail) infrastructure is very weak creates significant pricing leverage (no foreign competition) AND significant demand, because it needs concrete to build infrastructure.

It would be interesting to know the percentage of sales that are due to gov't infrastructure programs and the percentage that is due to private sector investment.

Assuming a banking and credit crisis and assuming that the government wins back the confidence of investors so that it issue government bonds, public investments should be safer than private investments.

  • Nvidia: Examining The Threat From Intel's Xeon Phi [View article]
What about going long Nvidia + Intel?
Both are rather cheap. What concerns graphics chips it is a zero-sum game between the two. Having both takes out that risk. Right? And both try to become major players in ARM chips. One of them should succeed here one way or the other.
I am pretty clueless about technical details. but would not this be an investment idea with an attractive risk/return profile?

  • Copper Investing In Mongolia [View article]
I just noticed that Jon is long on Voyager. I had a look at this company. Looking at the 3y chart and the development over the last months I could not help but wonder what had happened to the company that caused in this kind of erratic stock price development.

Seemed like there was a bonanza that has cooled. But what is the reason? Politics? Negative drilling results? Was the valuation just out of whack? Problems with getting a mining license?

How attractive are juniors right now given the new mining law and the inherent attractiveness of the mineral properties?

Any article that takes a closer look at this or similar companies.

I am surprised that nobody really picked up on the speculation concerning a banking crisis and a possible bank run. I am wondering. What would be a likely outcome of such a scenario ?

It would hurt domestic investors and savers while foreign companies with foreign financing and foreign product markets like TRQ would go unscathed. It would result in a credit crunch. As I heard mortgages and credit do not play a significant role in the Mongolian real estate markets. So actually real estate might even become more interesting as stores of value (as opposed to bank accounts).

Against this backdrop, companies investing in companies like TRQ or MGG might be good choices. Any comments?

I am 100% with you. Obviously we can be happy that something like SA exists at all.

However being from Europe the US arrogance to take a blind eye on all international investment opportunities that do not involve ADRs or some strange ETF has pissed me off from the beginning.
