Why are we propping up the housing industry? If we're going to give away $trillions to an industry, why not do something useful like build out renewable energy or cure cancer that will actually HELP our future generations instead of just saddle them with more debt.
The question is not "what percentage of our economy is housing" but rather "how important is building more (bigger, more expensive) houses to our future?". Last I checked 10% or more of the houses in the US are sitting empty.
