Netflix Cutting Costs: Will It Be Enough? [View article]
Mel ... I appreciate your hard work on this article, but are you not being just a bit disingenuous? You talk of the DVD sales going down. That is most certainly old news, as anyone who follows Netflix knows they are getting out of that business and that has been for about a year now.
But, when you write that there were only 530,000 new memberships in the US and fail to mention the well over 1,000,000 new memberships outside the US in the first half of 2012, I believe you are being less than candid.
Reporting like this makes me think that someone at Seeking Alpha is a wee bit short on Netflix and probably not feeling too good after a 2.47% rise in Netflix today. I'm just saying...
Netflix Is Bluffing And That Will Be Its Downfall [View article]
As it seems with so many current-day filmmakers...there is not an original thought here and, of course, the language is trash.
It is the same ole Netflix bashing, but without solid, critical analysis.
By the way, Seeking Alpha, when you pull an article from another source, we (or, at least, I) would STILL like to know if the person owns the stock and if he/she is shorting it. Not too swift, SA.
For some more insightful comments, I encourage all of you to click on the "Original post" link above. You will find that I'm actually being nice to this author.
The one consistency of the Seeking Alpha authors in regards to Netflix is their inconsistency. Do ANY of you know what is going on?!
Don't get me wrong, the article is well written in terms of structure, but only a few hours earlier, we were being told to essentially buy and hold for the long term.
The Seeking Alpha authors are truly muddying the water.
Yes, pauldeba... you are boring everyone. Did you miss that part of the article that said "long term". Ooops....forgot...you still have that crystal ball and maybe even got the Book of All Knowing.
dgulick...we are on the same page. I continue to buy Netflix and have a broad range of purchases from the $90s down to the low $50s.
Ajith...like you, I first and foremost truly like the company and watch Netflix EVERY day and did so long before I became an investor. I have no clue what the price will be over time, but as I've mentioned in previous posts, I am sure glad I held onto my Apple stock from the 1990s when it went from around $50 to around $19 and did not give up on it. As with Apple, I will stick long-term with Netflix for all of the reasons you have given. Perhaps I'll have a smile on my face in five years...or perhaps I won't. There is no way of knowing for sure that far out. But, I'm willing to let Netflix execute their plan and see how everything falls out.

Sounds like we have a few short sellers on the reply posts today. I always enjoy reading your posts. It's good for a laugh. Love your crystal balls, too. Where can I buy one one those?
The download caps placed by Canadian ISPs such as BCE and Shaw (SJR) are "almost a human rights violation," says Netflix's (NFLX) chief content officer - the caps have forced Netflix to make non-HD streams the default option in the country. CEO Reed Hastings has bashed both Canadian (as well as American) broadband prices before, but they haven't stopped the company from getting 15% of Canadians to subscribe to its streaming service. I always get a kick out of the writers at Seeking Alpha. Like today, for example. The stock goes up 4.34% and all the doomsayers have disappeared. I'll bet you shorts are feeling some pain. I do feel for you. Expect some more.

DLAL ... All of your points are spot on. To add to this, the short-sellers are doing their utmost to slam this company. They have been doing it for YEARS. Frankly, their drum beat is starting to be annoying.

Scott...Excellent article with some historical perspectives that I had not thought about. I agree with all you've written.
Billybob207...I agree with most of what you have written, though I always have to chuckle to myself when I hear people say that NFLX is overpriced. You see, it depends upon your time horizon. Just for a moment, put yourself five years down the road. I'm not so sure that buying now and going long will make NFLX seem so "overpriced". Patience remains a virtue.

As usual, on a down day for NFLX, the usual suspects come out and continue their NFLX slamming. You did it when the stock was in the $50's and you continued to do it when it broke through $100, then continued on when it broke through $150. Yep...I really think you guys are credible. NOT!!! I'll buy some more NFLX. It's a lot more fun than reading your negative nonsense.
Amazon's Wars: Sell Best Buy And Netflix [View article]
I have to laugh when an SA author says that Netflix "has not been able to add many subscribers".
Excuse me, it might not be on track for 7 million new subscribers for 2012, but I'll take 5.1 million any time, and to suggest that Netflix "has not been able to add many subscribers" is just plain idiotic. And to suggest that Amazon is even close to being a competitor is a bit overlooking the current subscriber base of Netfix. Amazon can play out a long game of catch up ... or make a bid.
By the way...what day did you write this? Do you have any clue to the impact of the Disney agreement?!
I'm not sure why I even bother responding to these SA authors.
Amazon And Netflix: An Odd Relationship? [View article]
Well...up until the last paragraph, this was, finally, a logical, well-written piece by Seeking Alpha. I wish there were more like it, but the dearth of wisdom at Seeking Alpha is rather profound.
The one statement that blemished the rest of the article was: "Netflix may never regain its number one status in online video streaming". I guess Seeking Alpha just can't help itself.
Did I miss something or does another video streaming service have more the 30+ million subscribers? Exactly when did Netflix lose its #1 position in online video streaming?
