Much of what you write is right, except the comparison to the "Macintosh-PC Wars of the 1990s".
Thankfully we are No longer in the 90's and so many things are different. What is Apple always "chastised" for being a closed system and maintaining tight interwoven control? What are other companies/organization... are thought of this way? Coke, McDonalds, BMW, Fisher & Paykel and many others are never mentioned?
Competition is good, nay, great for any industry. Apple has demonstrated that when a product is "closed" for a good enough reason, it can be successful, even if it did take 10-15 years for people to realize.
Piper Jaffray's bullish 45 million estimate of iPhones sold in 2010, Mac sales well over 10 million, iPod sales estimates of 40 million - 3 major product lines resulting in 100 million sales in 2009, I would just say - not too shabby!

Get a life and suck it up! Things move forward, there are NO guarantees of compatibility as OS progress. Or, get, you can switch to Windows and deal with the thousands of incompatibilities and issues! Your choice - is less more, or...
As mentioned, you can fairly easily watch your iPod using an available cable. As far as music, just download Simply Media app and the accompanying software for your computer and voila, simple as 1, 2, 3!

Agree wholeheartedly with FJ and Jon T. How many others have tried (sorry don't have the time or inclination to investigate exact numbers) and failed MISERABLY!
Sure at s__t Pal ain't gonna be the one to do it... Besides anything, where would they get the money to develop this, Dell??? :-)

Not sure if this the UK style of writing, but I find your text disjointed, your comments a bit brash, but more importantly baseless and often without merit.
"The war is hotting up", does not quite cut it in the US, maybe it is the Queens english?? The article seems more like it was a Google Translation?

Hope that Anthony C and other portfolio does not reflect their opinions, or they are not planning to put any kids through college on the BIG gains they are hoping to make on a DOA company.
To compare Apple and Palm is ludicrous! Palm is maybe a 1 trick pony, Apple's 28 Billion in the bank could buy palm, and distinguish the brand without missing a heartbeat.
If the prospects were so "good" for Palm and the pre, don't you think Balmer in his almighty wisdom would have snapped them up? Even he knows there is no investment there...

OK, agree with most of what you say, but need to really throw one thing into the mix - The new but yet unannounced Apple tablet/netbook/newton gizmo/gadget/computer/...
The implications are huge for the Kindle (most number show sales of iphone/ipod touch to be 60 times greater) as a device, and for the presumption of the demise of Barnes & Noble and your corner newsstand.
I don't think one needs to be a soothsayer to predict that in 5 or maybe 10 years most physical (aka paper) reading will be a thing of the past!
