There are investments to be made on the other end of lighting. Yes, the manufacturer of base components makes for solid ground-level work, but do not forget the sales channels that these people will run through, the manufacturure of the end product.

  • A Quick Guide to Solar Energy Stocks [View article]
Keep in mind that the investment in solar doesn't necessarily mean a stock investment. I am at a privately held company that is consistently seeking investors to fund projects backed by municipal contract. The return on some of these more immediate projects will make the stock investment in solar look puny on return.

  • Major Corporate Shift to Solar Energy and LEDs [View article]
The facts about what didn't happen at 3 mile island are less significant than the facts of what did happen at Chernobyl. It took one plant faliure to erase any environmental benefits derived, or to be derived by nuclear energy in the next few hundred years. The cost is too high, and the only thing that 3 mile island illustrated is that it will happen again.

  • Sustainable Energy Indices Rise, LED-Lighting Suffers (Week Ending 8/1) [View article]
Regardless of the index, LED lighting is the present. The stock market is clearly not an indicator of what's next... dot com era anyone?

Stick to your diodes on this one... there's no turning back, and LED makes CFL efficiencies comparable to prop vs jet.

  • Obama Provides More Tailwinds for LED Lighting Manufacturers [View article]
LED lighitng is one step in the right direction, but outright grid-independence is a tremendous leap. Where new constrcution is concerned, the cost/benefit is tremendous when the cost if infrastructure is mitigated. In the retrofit scenerio, it is very localized as to cost/benefit, credits, and payback. The fact is that solar lighting is more efficient, and if done correctly, by taking into consideration issues including IESNA and LEED parameters for efficient lighting, it can be of tremendous value to any municipality going green.
