Sherwin Williams Racing to Dominate Indian Market

the indian paint market is undoubtably a secular growt market .. both in the industrial and the interior decorative market.
they typical market leader has been asian paints ..and i think it acquired berger too. the other players though much smaller do continue to grow ..goodlass nerolac and ici. notably the industry is currently affected by high oil prices and chemicals .... but distribution continues to grow. The OEM market too has grown.
Its important to point out that ICI , the british multinational has been largely unsuccesful irrepsctive of the low per capita. So Sherwin will probably need to learn the ropes of distribution and a build a dependable brand name in India.
Also Asian paints is among the earliest recruiters of management trainees (mba's) in the country ( early as 1950's) like unilever and had oodles of talent to challenge any competitor... just goes to show that it wont be easy at all for a newcomer... my bet ( as much as i understand the dynamics of the industry is that sherwin is just another competitor
