I'm a huge fan of Costco. They practice lead pay salaries, which causes them to have only 20% turn over rate in employees, compared with the industry's 65% turn over rate. This saves them ~$2mil annually in not having to hire and train new employees. Costco also practices promotion within. Both of these factors increases employee moral, which increases employee productivity. Costco strategically keeps it's inventory losses low, losing only 0.2% to theft compared with Walmarts 1.6%. Costco pays 90% of employee health insurance, while Walmart pays only 60%. Costco sells mid to high end quality products, while other retailers sell mid to low end quality products. Costco has 100% cash refund for products (some products have a time limit on this refund), which is far better then other retailers. The mark-up on all products are kept between 5-15%, an issue which CEO James Sinegal has established in the face of immence pressure from wallstreet, thus inspiring greater customer loyalty. I don't even look at prices anymore because I know that Costco doesn't mark up on its products above 15%, and therefore I know I'm not getting ripped off on anything Costco offers. Costco is a company which tries to be a good company to it's employees and customers, which in turn makes them community friendly. We should all invest in Costco.
