  • Do eBay Investors Expect Too Much? [View article]
Smiannarone, PAYPAL is one word. Paypal. Want to invest in a great company with a real future. Try looking for the new IPO out there. In one day I made $60K on my investment. ebay never provided me with returns like that in the 12 or so years that I held it.

  • Etsy Up Over 100% In First Day Of Trading [View article]
I was also able to procure my shares as an Etsy seller. Like Tom, I am completely happy with the support this company received.

As far as selling, that won't happen. I purchased AMZ at $18.00 a share and held it until May of 2014. In the end I had 55,000 shares, initially I had purchased 4500 shares, later on as a show of support to the company I did purchase another 5000 shares. All of the other shares were obtained through splits.

I will be holding Etsy for at least ten (10) or more years.

Take this for an Amazon document, straight from Amazon!

When you get done reading their email, cruise on over to Amazon and type in, "Morning Glory Heavenly Blue".

If I were any more insulted by this notice I would drive straight to Seattle and camp on Jeff's door step until he apologized to me and fired the person that made this decision right in front of me.

One has to wonder which company will take the fall for the Bill me Later fiasco?

ebay bought the company, Paypal adopted it. If Paypal ends up being the diffident it will create a huge black mark against the company and both buyers and sellers will make a mass exodus away from Paypal as a payment gate.

derf I would have to agree with you that the site has some specific issues with regards to identifying problem areas.

I read the article and it has way too many flaws, but some solid information. ebay has a trust and safety department for sure and abuse it every chance they get. I don't recall ever being referred to etsy trust and safety department.

As far that the copycat reproduction of original artwork or crafts I don't believe there is any entity that is big enough to stop that. As an artist I have had to say to myself, "you know your good, when people are stealing your work".

Ed, I was one in the first bunch of bagged sellers. I also lost my buying rights as well. I can still sign into eight (8) accounts that I held on there for several years.

The ebafia is very similar to the olden day NY mafia dead or alive your still on the books as an active member.

"The company's Marketplaces business has been a consistent performer and has over 150 million registered users."

What a bunch of BS! I can't think of at least 9 close relatives that have been dead for some time and their accounts are still active on ebay. ebay simply won't close the accounts.

As an X-ebay seller I can tell you that I had no problem getting my ebay clients to follow me right straight over to etsy.

No one in their right mind would want etsy to become anything like ebay. ebay is just pure garbage. etsy keeps sellers happy, the sellers keep the buyers happy.

derf, just for your information God willing I will be buying as big of chunk of etsy as my money get. I have also heavily invested in square to insure that I will own the best of both worlds. I think the mass exodus you are referring to is from ebay not etsy.

  • Amazon And Alibaba Cooperation Highlights Difference Between 2 Systems [View article]
Sometimes it is very difficult to understand how little knowledge investors actually have of the companies that they invest in.

I have been selling on the internet for some 15 plus years. Currently I sell on 6 venues and 2 websites. It is easy for me to understand how international sales can be a major part of the income from doing so. With regards to international sales. Last year my international sales were 57% and domestic 43%.

There is one major contributor to the differences. In the USA my products are available via many venues. In some foreign countries they are simply not available at all, or restricted to licensed professional buyers.

All though ebay and Amazon may be particularly responsible for the breakdown in what should have remained a professional industry where royalties were paid, regestered and trademarked products respected. Companies such as ebay and Amazon have failed miserably. Worst of all the USDA is the total failure in my particular industry.
Currently Amazon has a huge push for sellers such as myself to join them in international sales via FBA. I would not even consider it, but they will get the scum of the earth to provide the products that I do. Amazon will store the items in scorching hot warehouses, hold the products over more than the legal 6 months and international buyers will be totally disappointed with their purchases.
I do believe that there are countries that will definately balk at Amazon and require the proper licensing to sell such items. The do illegally in every state in the USA, why not Europe or China.

I wish all investors in Amazon very good luck. As they continue to hack off small sellers at the knees they will also lose them as buyers and Prime members.
