  • Verizon Finally Unveils iPhone Competition, Or "iPhone Equalizer" [View article]
Mr. Sullivan once again provides patently false information on Apple. Seriously, don't waste your time debating this guy. He always misrepresents Apple in his pieces. He's just flaming to up his hit count.

  • Tip To Microsoft and Verizon: Think Better. Much Better. [View article]
Good point about fake Rolex watches. We all get the joke when we see one. Let's face it, Verizon will do well with this product but they won't do "great." Nor will they ever compete with the iPhone. This phone will always be an also-ran and for some people that's fine. But without the iPhone, it wouldn't exist and we'd all still be wondering how Motorola tricked us into buying another RAZR.

This LG is good news for Apple. Simple as that.

  • What Does Verizon Have In The Wings? [View article]
I don't know Todd personally, so I hate to bust his chops, but is he is consistently off-base on Apple. Reverse barometer.

  • What Does Verizon Have In The Wings? [View article]
I doubt Verizon has anything up its sleeve. Not that it won't try to compete, they just won't be highly strategic or try to compete on the same playing field. I could be wrong, but Verizon's vision, in my opinion, is to be the big corporation. I've never seen evidence that they desire to be light, agile, competitive. Their strategy is growth and dominance.

Also, I don't think people should force too many expectations on a Google phone. It'll be brilliant and smart, without question, but I'm betting it won't be the wunderkind that the iPhone is. Might be more capable, but I doubt it would be as elegant or more advanced. I see something very rough around the edges with great potential for those willing to dive in. Just like Google. As well, I don't expect them to compete, other than the fact that they're both cell phones.

  • MTV, RealNetworks to Form JV to Challenge Apple iTunes [View article]
You know what? This doesn't sound like any kind of competition. This sounds more like a lifestyle/audience adaptation of the digitla music marketplace. Apple owns the digital marketplace, but they are not, should not, and cannot, be the only player. All growth of digital music is good for Apple.

Now getting rid of DRM so that music can be more portable from web store to web store, player to player, consumer to consumer, is an utter priority. The distributors are killing themselves in this respect.

  • iPhone Madness: Is Verizon Eating Its Heart Out? [View article]
This is AT&T's to lose. The hardware is holding up, the network isn't. This will be OK for early adopters, but won't last the year if they don't start making real changes to their network. I'm an AT&T customer and I'll tell you that in the Balt/DC area they have horrible coverage.

  • iPhone: Prelude To An Unlocked Phone Revolution [View article]
What PARC had, it sat on. Jobs didn't steal it, he put it to work. He knew that it existed and that it would work for the consumer. He then researched, designed, and developed an operating system. Gates, on the other hand, saw what Jobs was doing with it and made a shell for his operating system that would compete with Apple. Jobs stole an undeveloped idea and made it real, Gates stole everything and ruthlessly marketed it.

  • Apple: Biting off More than It Can Chew? [View article]
    Yawn.

The iPod continues to succeed in a market flooded by cheaper options. iPod sales will slow for sure, but there's too big a bed of users that will upgrade their iPods to make that slow-down anywhere near catastrophic.

The iPhone is for people that don't currently own a smart phone. Just like the iPod was for people who didn't own an MP3 player. As I've said before, lack of Exchange Server integration is an iPhone FEATURE. The iPod was useless to corporate users too, but they all seem to own one.

I am always shocked by Wall Street's love for lack of innovation. Verizon is a large bear with it's hind hanging off a log, sitting around waiting for the breeze to blow. Verizon's move is proof to me that Apple is right. To wit, a company like Verizon lacks hunger for risky growth, latching onto troubled Cingular and giving it something to use as a springboard is a wise decision. Apple's value is it's ability to wait and make wise decisions, not its rush to make obvious ones.

Vista is the best thing to happen to Apple. Did you know that when you install Vista on a MacBook Pro it comes up with a 4.5/5 rating for Vista compatibility? Your average year-old Dell not so much. Whether this sends people to the Apple Store I don't know, but it's yet another thing consumers will see and think to themselves, "Why not just buy a Mac?"

While I complement you for leaving off yet another misguided slam on the 2MP camera on the phone, I once again find an article that could have been written 5 years ago being peddled as news. Sorry to be snide guys, but I came to Seeking Alpha looking for astute journalism. Perhaps I should lower my standards.

  • Why Apple's iPhone Doesn't Really Matter To Verizon [View article]
Why would you take Verizon's word on Verizon? Of course they "don't see the iPhone as a threat." They left out crucial words to change the impression that they really have. "We don't [want you to] see the iPhone as a [very serious] threat [to our lack of support for a consumer-oriented smart phone]."

This Larry Dignan guy seems to constantly post unsubstantiated iPhone criticism that is often wrong and unsupported by available facts. Responding to this, other than what Tomm_UK says above, is a waste of everyone's time. It's funny that everyone hops on someone who toots Apple's horn but no one jumps on guys like this that regurgitates corporate positions, essentially back-side PR, without any valuable analysis.
