  • Apple Stock Becoming The Ultimate Safe Haven [View article]
You may be right about Apple's chances of regaining 115, but the outcome of your trade has nothing to do with that.

I agree with the author - another safe haven that's been great is TLT, though I'm not sure how long that will last, specifically with respect to the Fed.

  • Why Apple Has To Take Bendgate Seriously [View article]
There is now a video showing a similar "test" of a Samsung phone. It bent pretty much the same way and the glass shattered. It's a phone, not a samsonite suitcase (remember the commercial showing a gorilla throwing a suitcase around in his cage).

Given some reports I've read that Apple is buying Taser, I have to believe they will offer a weaponized version of the watch. Wait, what day is it?

  • Caveat Emptor: 25% Of New ETFs Could Be 'Toxic' [View article]
Volatility has never been cheaper (at least in recent memory). And there are many ways to trade VXX. Biotech has been looking pretty "toxic" lately.

  • Apple's Haunted Empire [View news story]
So many armchair quarterbacks, so few who have done anything even remotely as challenging as running the largest company in the world. You embarrass yourselves.

  • The Instructive Case Of Galena Biopharma [View article]
I understand the criticisms here, but there's a valid point in this article. On sites like this and especially Stocktwits, there are people who profess to be long-term investors while sweating every freakin tick of the stock. Bret Jensen, a writer here and on The Street, frequently recommends bio stocks, but he also recommends a "shotgun approach" - smaller positions spread across a number of these stocks.

I would take it a step further; create a "time capsule" portfolio for these stocks, buy them, and leave them alone for a period of time. Don't include them in your watch list, don't look at your brokerage statements and, above all else, don't frequent sites like StockTwits.

  • How 2014 Could Be Like 1929 [View article]
Interestingly, Goldman Sachs reduced their GDP forecast significantly a couple weeks ago, at least for the first two quarters. Barron's cover story is in my view a strong contrarian indicator. What happens when we can no longer blame the snow for weak economic data?

  • DryShips: Does The Big Pullback In This $3 Stock Make It Cheap Enough To Buy? [View article]
From a technical standpoint, compare the charts of DRYS and VTG. I'm not convinced that this is the right time to buy either of them, but VGT looks like a battered puppy to me.

  • I'll Buy DryShips At $2.80 Or Lower [View article]
I've been waiting for gas to get down to $2.80 gallon. It's just a matter of time, I'm sure. Until then, I'll ride by bike in the snow. Seriously, if you think about the Baltic Dry Index as a "canary in the coal mine" indicator, I suspect the market will be in a world of hurt by the time DRYS gets to $2.80.
