  • Apple (AAPL) has bought transportation app developer HopStop, Bloomberg reports. HopStop's data and navigation tools for local transportation options such as buses, trains, taxi services, and bike paths would help address user complaints about Apple Maps' dearth of public transit data/features relative to Google Maps. The report comes shortly after Apple confirmed it bought Canadian location database developer Locationary. Update: Apple confirms it has bought HopStop. [View news story]
Well, gee, if you are that disgusted why don't you sell them all?

  • Sarepta Traders Brace For Possible Accelerated Approval For Eteplirsen [View article]
At the JPM Healthcare Conference this morning, SRPT ceo Chris Garabedian said the following:

"And we believe under the guidelines particularly under accelerated approval, we're a surrogate market in this case dystrophin seems to be reasonably predicting the clinical response we're seeing here. It would be sufficient to be acceptable for a filing and that's something we hope we will find out in the next month or two and be able to communicate our intention of whether or not we'll file on this application for approval."

Brain, on what basis do you believe a decision will be made before the end of the month?

I'm cool with that. It's the writers who say "I have no position in this stock" who raise my eyebrows.

What a difference a day makes. Evidently people like the idea of a 4-5% dividend on top of an undervalued growth stock. Big ups to author Brad.

Off Topic but had to laugh - I drove the Elgin-O'Hare expressway for years. It is about 6.2 miles long; how much of a toll do they expect to charge...glad I moved.

  • Tim Cook's Improbable Victory In Washington [View article]
Apple has to compete for every dollar it earns. Members of Congress only have to compete for re-election. Apple is the most admired company in the world, current stock price notwithstanding. Congress has an approval rating of 11 or 12 percent. Apple is working within a tax structure for which Congress is responsible.

If Apple paid more taxes, I'm afraid our government would just waste it anyway.

  • Apple: Too Far, Too Fast? [View article]
There have been so many articles here and elsewhere offering various estimates for valuation, financial impact of the dividends and buyback, etc. They have their place, but in the near term I believe Apple's price will be driven more by various catalysts ahead. And at this time we are getting pretty close to the time frame in which those catalysts are likely to occur. Sure, the price could pull back from here. But it could just as easily surge 5-10% in one day on positive news.

  • Tech Stocks That Should Follow Apple's Lead [View article]
I read Bret's opening as suggesting more that Apple's buyback and dividend increase was essentially a catalytic event, not that IBM was copying Apple per se or that Apple "invented" the concepts. What is deceptive about that?

  • Apple: Massive Buyback Powers Shares After Hours [View article]
@msmth: you make a really important point. Following Apple can/has become an obsession. Reading every article, tweet, blog post, etc. is fascinating but it does nothing for the rest of one's portfolio. The time is better spent evaluating other stocks owned and finding new opportunities - like the ones Bret surfaces nearly every day.

  • Apple Investors Are Missing The Big Picture [View article]
The sheer amount of bs coming from The Street, CNBC and various other sources is staggering. I hit my limit a couple days ago, when a news item on MarketWatch mentioned that an analyst at BMO Capital Markets reduced his rating on AAPL to market perform and - wait for it - reduced his price target from $440 to $435, a 1% reduction. Are these people infants?

  • A Biotech Firm's Ultimate Decision: To Finance, To Find A Partner Or To Go Bankrupt [View article]
As I said later in another comment on this article:

"This was a good day to buy more shares, which I did, and I don't believe this article had much, if anything, to do with the dip today. I just think it's silly when SA writers say they have no position in the stock they're writing about "at this time". I mean, seriously, what's the point of writing the article then? A public service? Anyone naive enough to believe that probably shouldn't be in the market."
