  • Arena's Belviq Bucks Seasonality With 3.6% Week Over Week Gain [View article]
    Sedric,
Phentermine has been around a lot longer than 4 years, and is FDA approved.
ADIPEX-P® is "indicated as a short-term adjunct (a few weeks) in a regimen of weight reduction based on exercise, behavioral modification and caloric restriction in the management of exogenous obesity"

    http://1.usa.gov/1qc1dyc

"A few weeks" is pretty vauge terminology. Does anyone know if physicians have ever been sued for long-term prescribing of phentermine?

Come on then Jakes, spit it out.
What insurance companies added Belviq to their formulary?
Did any of the already covered lives have a change in tier?

Or are you one of the 1/10 who does not have full knowledge of these basic issues?

  • Contrave Data is Positive for Orexigen's Other Weight-Loss Candidate - Analyst [View news story]
Acceptable CV risk has actually been clearly defined by the FDA. Orexigen needs to exclude a hazard ratio (for MACE) of 2.0 relative to placebo at the interim analysis and then 1.4 at final analysis to remain on the market.

  • Vivus Outlines Key Data Points [View article]
    Interesting stuff Spencer.
So insurance coverage is increasing, good!

I'd note that the 38% refers to "commercial lives" specifically. This does not includes medicare / medicaid and does not equate to 38% of the U.S. obese population.

Anyone got an idea how much one might pay for a months Qsymia on a typical commercial plan at Tier 3? Would be interested to know.

Thanks for the link. I hadn't heard of http://bit.ly/19AFpnz
but now this reliable source of industry information has been brought into my life I feel confident I have a full and rounded view on the risks involved in the prescribing of Victoza.

Public Citizen file a LOT of petitions, try not to reference that it makes you sound simple.

  • Novo Nordisk Advertising Weight Loss - A Future Peek At Arena Or Vivus? [View article]
These threads got really boring for a while, but I sense we are entering a new phase.
Most of the Arena longs have moved on realizing just how badly Belviq will perform and now we are left with the hard-core nutters.
Tgallo - I enjoyed you comment in particular
Spencer - I'm liking the increasingly aggressive defense of your articles.
I think you should discuss Victoza and the new 3mg dose of liraglutide more.

  • Arena And Vivus - Why Insurance Is So Important [View article]
Good article Spence. Insurance is Belviq's (and all weight loss drugs) single biggest problem.

    Got a reference for..
"It is estimated that between 30% and 35% of covered lives have insurance that in some way covers at least a portion of these."

Historically generics are covered about 35% of the time.

That is the first time I heard someone raise the issue of cost-savings due to reduced food intake.

  • Vivus Is Advertising Qsymia Direct To Consumers [View article]
Eisai should offer to help run and promote Ellie's blog and use it as an patient education (marketing) tool.
Could look a little cynical I suppose, but they need to be more active and do more soon.

  • Arena's Belviq Continues Sales Traction [View article]
Not sure about records, but an example of a strong launch and to keep things topical...
In its first quarter on the market, Tecfidera posted sales of $192 million, including inventory stocking. Biogen said about $110 million of the total represented underlying patient demand. Analysts had expected about $66 million, with the more bullish forecasts at about $90 million.

Analysts ...forecast eventual peak sales in excess of $3 billion.
