What everyone is missing and no one talks about is the charge time. Even IF there are charging stations along the road, delivering 70 amps a 240 volts, it will take HOURS to recharge the batteries.
What success with Tesla? They have only succeeded in hooking investors with little knowledge of what is in store for pure plug-ins. They have not sold a single car.
Ultimately, as these all come to market, the will be found as nothing more than sophisticated golf carts, "tethered" to their home charging stations. They will never be able to:
1. Go on long trips 2. Go up long hills 3. Go 75 mph for extended periods of time 4. Pull a trailer 5. Provide comforts such as heaters and air conditioning without severely effecting the range.
Forget about plug-ins. They are a great car for producers, simple (minded), easy to manufacture: no messy transmissions, engines, differentials, all that rotating stuff that makes a car difficult to design and manufacture. For the user, it is a "go to market", commuter car.
The charging problem will NEVER be solved. The delivery of the equivalent of 200 KWH during a trip is not feasable. Even Tesla sees this problem and proposes that we have "battery change stations", where you drive up to your filling station and CHANGE YOUR BATTERY.
Give me a break.
Say it like it is. Tell the real story about charging time for pure plug-ins.

Yep, let's recharge the 100% plug in with wind power. Just put a propeller with a generator on the front of the car, and we go forever. As you go, you charge and run the motors. Never have to plug in as long as you keep going...RIGHT???
And, let's do solar powered all electric. The surface area of a typical "Big" car will yield solar power of about 3 horsepower. OOOO I can hardly wait to get my powerful 3 horsepower car going on a long trip. Further, in the driveway, on a full sunny day, no clouds, assuming 100% efficiency, it will take 7.7 hours to get enough charge to go 40 miles. All day to get enough to go to the store the next day. Well, how about a big lens? ;-)
Amazing how little engineering homework anyone has done on this subject. But, it time, it will all come true. Crash goes the plug in.
You people need some basic knowledge of engineering.

100% electric will fail miserably. What everyone will "discover" is that a "fillup" from the plug will require an electric load that will dwarf the ability of the plug to deliver. SAE has developed the "standard" connector that will be seen at filling stations everywhere. It delivers a maximum of 70 amps at 240 volts. As a rule of thumb, with 100% efficiency (impossible) of the electric drive train, it will take 1 hour to get an energy load to take you 40 miles. This is fundamental. I challenge anyone, anytime, anyplace to prove, with facts, that what I am saying is wrong. Plan your trips carefully, with lots of time to fillup, get a hot dog, slurpee, sauna, nap, etc.

Controlled, communist industries have continuously failed over the last 80 years. The USSR was supposed to dominate all aviation...with stolen or rehashed technology. Airbus has a monstrosity with the 380, nothing new, just bigger. Not a whit of new innovation, same old aluminum tubes.
The Chinese? Not a single industrial innovation can be attributed to China. Not a single one. To be a true leader, you need manufacturing capability, a supply chain, effect research, top engineering and good service. Which if any of these business basics have the Chinese shown leadership. The only thing they have brought to the table is "slave labor"....cheap wages.
Watch: The Chinese aircraft will go the way of Illushin.

Don't put Ford in the same pile as the other union suckups. They built that plant in Brazil....remember? They have also cut the slag two years ago. They will be among the stongest automakers in the USA...and they won't have to have government subsidies like Toyota, Honda, BMW, etc. have used forever to stay solvent.
Ford, in my estimation, is a company that has shown us how it can be done without bailouts, subsidies despite anything that the UAW has tried to make them like GM and Chrysler.
End of Story!

Boeing will come out of this stronger than anyone else....It's the 787, stupid. The best fuel economy of any flying aircraft or any being planned? This will make it unique in the market, and the airline leasing companies and all the rest will be able to show that lifetime costs of the 787 can justify replacing old, inefficient airplanes.
Goodby those crappy Airbus' that we have to ride from Boise to Michigan. Welcome, 787!!!!
Good job, Boeing. Too bad, Socialist Aircraft Company!
