Merger With AMR May Send US Airways Shares Surging [View article]
I believe it will go through. But it has to be approved by US and EU regulators. I can't think of any reason they would not approve of it. And also US Airways shareholders have to vote for it. Today is probably profit taking. Also there are a lot of unknowns as the real merger will probably take over a year. US Airways had so much cash and no debt that they had to invest it in something. And American Airlines has much to offer in other hubs and international routes. Where the stock goes is anyone's guess but I can't see it getting below $12. And the price targets are between $17 and $20. All of the unions, including the pilots and stewardesses, are for it. That's a big plus too.

Toyota recalls a million cars again. "The recall fiasco continues to whip Toyota Motor Corp. (TM). Recently, the automaker revealed that it would recall nearly 1.3 million cars globally for two separate defects. The first defect involves 752,000 units of Toyota Corolla and Corolla Matrix small cars from the 2003 and 2004 model years while the second one includes 385,000 Lexus IS luxury sedans and its series from the 2006 through 2012 model years." http://yhoo.it/YtS7ip

That is not true. There is very little difference between brands now as far as quality. You have to look at specific models to determine reliability. As a brand both Ford and GM are close to average in reliability while brands you might think are better like BMW are way below.

Pretty interesting because of the drop today but may just need to watch this for a few days. LCC shareholders get 28% of the new company which will have 3 times the revenue and gain the international routes. (Calculations were for LCC to be around 21%.) Seems to be a good investment of US Airways' cash when you consider that they are the low cost US carrier. Watch to see if regulators approve of the merger.

Barclays PT $19, UBS $17. Stock is very volatile on the news. Today is sell on the news. So you may want to buy a few shares as it is sitting on support. US Airways shareholders still have to vote. Something may still happen to thwart the plan. But LCC is such a cheap stock alone and will be the largest airline in America when it's over. The stock is better than most specs.
American Airlines (AAMRQ.PK) and US Airways (LCC) have confirmed that they are to merge. The companies will hold a press conference at Dallas/Fort Airport this morning to discuss the deal. (PR) [View news story]
Shareholders and EU have to approve. It's not a done deal.

yea and Costco must be wondering what to do with their tv dept at the front of the store, while Sony and Samsung ponder the decline in their lcd biz. Apparently no one told all the people run over on black friday.

Completely false on "inbreeding" which does not exist. Buying back shares is the best way to return cash to investors because there is no tax consequence to the investor, unlike dividends. The benefit comes from when the shares are removed from the market and are not redistributed to executives. The investor then owns more of Apple than they did before the buyback. Buybacks are what I prefer. Some companies pay no dividends and do buybacks. These companies are more likely to be growth companies.

That is ridiculous. Corporations have more money than anyone else. And they are certainly not reducing prices, just paying themselves at the top millions of more dollars. Wall Street mantra is the problem aka no taxes, lower wages, layoffs, price hikes, and basically the idea that capitalism should enslave the population while financial people rule the media and the government. There needs to be reform such that corporations pay the tax that they owe and no one gets preferential treatment unless we vote on that subsidy.
