  • Mind Over Matter: Oil / Coal Dependence vs. Alternative Energy [View article]
Anyone that mentions global warming as a reason to radically change the way we live or consume immediately loses credibillity with me. That "debate" was never a real debate and the attempted shift in terminology to climate change to account for the cooling temperatures will not make those pushing it credible.

It seems that the same crowd that was pushing global warming has also made it literally impossible to use nuclear power generation as our "green" alternative. Thorium reactors could provide us with all of the power that we could ever consume safely, economically and with plenty of fuel available in the USA.

  • T. Boone Pickens: Move 18-Wheeler Fleet to Natural Gas [View article]
Pickens was trying to convert autos to CNG in the early 90's as a way to clean up the air as well as stop importing oil. Had we done that we would have the infrastructure in place today for refueling as well as the cars available from the manufacturers. As it stands today, Honda is the only one making CNG cars for sale in the USA and it is 1,000 civics annually out of a plant in Ohio or Indiana. As far as infrastructure, Northern California, Utah and Oklahoma are the only ones that provide reasonable (and minimal) refueling options.

I'm always amazed at the willingness to continue on the destructive path that we are on because of the perception that someone will make money on the necessary change.

  • Our Current Economic Illusions [View article]
Yeah right on the government cooking the books. The next thing you'll try to tell me is that the impending global warming disaster is based on cooked numbers as well. Then you'll try to convince me that the Gore and Obama Nobel Prizes are frauds. Then you'll try to tell me that the best use of the NY Times is at the bottom of the bird cage. One thing that I know for sure, no matter what it is - it's Bush's fault.

  • Arianna Huffington: New Media Outlets Must Prove Commitment to Truth [View article]
Interviewing Arianna Huffington about misinformation in the media is as relevant as interviewing Al Gore about misinformation on "global warming" aka "climate change."

Case in point - "in my case I supported Barack Obama for President. However, I have been very critical of him because we are following the facts and are committed to discovering the truth." One would suspect that a relevant participant in the new media would seek the facts and the truth before the Presidential election. Huffington Post along with the rest of the mainstream media missed the key stories.

full disclosure - I was barred from posting on Huffington Post before my first post was accepted.

  • Why Economists Messed Up [View article]
Unequal enforcement of rules and laws is corruption. The SEC is corrupt when they don't enforce their rules the same for everyone and they allow law firms to manipulate the SEC on behalf of their clients. Congress is corrupt in the way they pass laws to favor certain constituents who happen to be large campaign fund donors. Wall Street firms are corrupt by influencing Congress to their benefit and using large "major" law firms to run interference for them. The large law firms are corrupt by covering up their clients actions and swamping the "opposition" with meaningless details to avoid the real issues and are not held responsible for the wrong doing because "they were only representing their client." Economists have been unable to factor corruption into their evaluations / predictions. Until the press and the US citizens are able to call corruption what it is and address it, we will continue to have distorted out of proportion problems. A little corruption goes a long way and the ones that get hurt the most are the innocent bystanders.

  • Fool Me Once, Shame on You. Fool Me Twice, Shame on Me [View article]
Dan Zwirn and John Meriwether should get together to start a fund - The Special Opportunities For Dan and John Fund. Three year front end lock up, five years notice to withdraw, no statements necessary since you won't know what your return (loss) is until they liquidate the fund, no tax liability since there are no gains and the partners can rest assured that the fund "managers" are able to maintain that Manhattan and Cayman Island life style with private jets, etc. Win/win for Dan and John and the partners get what they deserve.

Stern's contract is up next year I think. His original contract was loaded with stock options and I don't know if they worked out for him or not. He probably will not stay on sat radio and his 2 mil following will jump off.
