  • Perhaps unsurprisingly, student loan defaults are skyrocketing as rising tuition costs clash with a weak job market.  [View news story]
100 K in debt and you are trading?(I assume you are a trader because who else uses this website.) Talk about WTF. If it's not beneath you, try finding a job that is not in your chosen field, just to have a job and something to put on your resume. Better lose the sense of entitlement and overall arrogance first though.

  • Leveraged ETFs: New Source of Systemic Risk [View article]
Heaven forbid anyone other than the big players should be allowed to play the market the way these ETFs allow the individual investor to. By your reasoning, day traders and swing traders, etc. who invest in these ETFs are like children who should not be allowed to cross the street unless escorted by a responsible adult. How ridiculous. Let's not forget whose money the big boys are playing with, and don't insinuate that individual investors lack the common sense to decide what to do with their money. I think most of us have more investing acumen than you would give us credit for.

  • We've got more than enough money to backstop America's 19 biggest banks, White House Chief Of Staff Rahm Emanuel tells ABC's This Week, downplaying speculation the government would ask Congress for more money. Though Emanuel concedes he hasn't seen the stress test results.  [View news story]

But you'd like to think you know what does.

I have said it before, and I will say it again. Anyone who thinks they know what is going to happen in this market is either delusional, pushing their website, or both. This is particularly true in the case of the worthy prognosticator, Mr. Hakimoglu. Please, sir, spare us your pronouncements.

It's the last sentence that interests me. Can it be that people are finally coming to their senses credit-wise? If so, better late than never.

  • New Direxion 3x ETFs Offer Investors 'Bonds on Crack' [View article]
Further thoughts on Ron's article-I really wish there was a surefire way to get a lot of people interested in these new ETFs(and trading in them, of course). I really do. In the meantime, I refuse to risk any capital in any of them, even if it is only for an hour or two. Sigh...

  • New Direxion 3x ETFs Offer Investors 'Bonds on Crack' [View article]
This would be great news for all the day traders out there IF ONLY there was some interest in trading any of the above. As of this writing, only TMV has traded enough to warrant even the slightest amount of (morbid) interest.Until then, I'll stick with FAS, FAZ and the like. Fewer than 10 million shares traded per day? Trust me-don't waste your time.

  • Will Banks Lead the Way to 1929 Crash Part II? [View article]
I have noticed that pieces such as this one by Mr. Abraham seem to excite the most comment, and the strongest reactions, on this site.3
As for my reaction to this market, I find myself treading very carefully, since the usual trading indicators don't seem to work as well as they used to. I think anyone who plans to buy and hold for more than a day is foolhardy, regardless of what some here say. That being said, I am not convinced that the sky is falling. It's business more or less as usual, but on a larger scale than ever. Anyone who claims to know what the future holds for this market is delusional, pitching their website, or both. Shut up and trade-carefully.

  • Most Volatile Sectors on Earnings [View article]
Yes. It is a good idea to keep an eye on upcoming earnings reports, and this is particularly true in the tech sector, since, as you point out, it is so volatile. I have used this technique, combined with a few others, to turn a quick profit, most notably with MSFT a year or two back.
