  • Project $3 Million Dividend Results - Objectives [View article]
"During the worst crash in my lifetime, the income stream kept rising...That alone is a strong enough reason for me to stay the course."

Chowder! Speaking of rising income streams, I assume you saw the dividends the Hot Dog Stand (*1) threw off tonight?

    Another quarter, another raise. (*2)

  • Starbucks launches rare coffee subscription service [View news story]
"An annual subscription will include 12 shipments of 8.8-ounce bags of reserve coffee sent within 3 to 5 days of roasting for a cost of $288."

Am I reading that correctly? $24 for 8 ounces of coffee?

I love me some Starbucks but for that price it better get me buzzed _and_ do my laundry.

  • How To Generate Income With A Built-In Margin Of Safety [View article]
"The bottom line is that put selling over the past 4 to 5 years has left a LOT of money on the table."

As a seller of puts, I can only say why the truth of your statement doesn't bother me.

I have many stocks that I would like to own, but only at my price. If I write a put and it expires worthless, I don't fret the money I didn't make- should I have instead simply purchased the stock- because I REFUSE to ever pay more than what I have determined to be fair value for anything I intend to own.

Put options which expire generally return between 20% and 30%, annualized, on my escrowed money. I'm happy to "settle" for that rate of return while I wait for the ones that do expire in the money.

Once I've been assigned a stock, I know I got it at great value and the income stream from that issue will compound to a greater reward on the reduced purchase price.

"Leaving money on the table" bothers me not at all. There is another table with more money on it right over there in next Friday's Weeklies. ;)

My view, and probably worth exactly what you paid for it. ;)

Chowder: "Nobody is implying that the dividend growth strategy is bullet proof, even a bullet proof vest isn't bullet proof. An armor piercing bullet would go straight through the vest and the person and come out the other side. The Great Recession was the market's version of an armor piercing bullet."

If The Great Recession was the best they could do against DGI, then all I can say is "bring it".

    Dented, but not pierced. ;)

  • Goal-Setting For Income Investors [View article]
ScottU: "I'm curious to find out what other readers have done to help them set goals."

Scott, congrats on your first article.

What did I do to help me to start to set goals?
Well, I did two things; _neither_ of them intentionally.

1: The _second_ worst day of my life happened the day I made $6,000 in one session discovering I was a natural-born day trader.

2: The _worst_ day of my life occurred some months later when I realized I had just spent $X0,000 finding out it wasn't true.

I looked at the wreckage of what I had wrought, and swore never again.

    And here I am.

Although I may hope to one day make up the money I lost, I will _never_ be able to make up the continual income from the money I lost. That opportunity can never be regained, because I can't make up the _time_.

The money I squandered is nothing. The _time_ I squandered- forever giving up increasing income streams from the money lost- is gone forever.

    Lesson, (very painfully), learned.

All the best, Scott. And, again, congratulations.

  • How Much 'Extra' Return Are You Getting If You Reinvest Dividends? [View article]
"You do NOT have to reinvest dividends as soon as you get them to get the full value of compounding."

I think Advisor must have been referring to all the companies that pay 1/250th of their annual dividend each trading day.

Glad I could clear that up for you.

"I call those standards ASPIRATIONAL... I mean, am I supposed to quit tennis just because I can't serve like Federer?"

Sure. Just tell your daughter that while you're practicing your tennis serve you expect her to practice becoming bulimic and increasing the size of her ta-tas.

Your screen name: you're not doing it right. :/

  • Apple: Winning The Profit Battle, Losing The Smartphone War [View article]
"And meanwhile, arguably the software situation has already equalized."

Well, THIS is certainly good news. Let me use my nexRemote to turn down the volume on my nexTV which is streaming through nexPlay, so I can concentrate while typing my nexMessage, sending it as a free nexText to my 1.75 BILLION+ Nexus-using friends all over the world.

I'll be able to keep track of their responses because my nexBook computer's Nex-X operating system, my nexPhone and nexPad all seemlessly integrate, though Nexus "equalized" software, and instantaneously convey to all my nexDevices through the nexCloud.

I'll let them know how secure I feel using nexPay, not having to worry about the security of my financial information. I'll let them know that with nexPay, my financial transactions are instantaneously transmitted and available on all my "software equalized" nexDevices, sacrificing none of the security I've come to rely on Nexus for.

Yeah. That's what I'll do. If I can concentrate enough with all the flying pigs circling overhead.

Mike opined: "TUP actually had a pretty poor earnings report and offered pessimistic guidance ... "

I suspect the reaction is to the increased Asia Pacific and South American Sales numbers, which, if I recall correctly, are the areas they said they were going to focus on. And no whining about how the strong US dollar is working against them.

As you say, this still doesn't make them stellar, but allows me to take a wait-and-see approach toward my very, very small position with them.

    Hope you're well,

Dude. That day is here. I tell Siri to send a message and she does it.

Get with the times, geezer. You need to trade in your clay tablet and cuneiform stick for an iPhone.
