Swine Flu: Why You Can Ignore the Hype [View article]
Always interesting the role that media and fear play in the markets...That said, you would think Pharm and healthcare industries would be an equally good positive to offset some of the worry that the media can create. It's all about changing perspective and finding the positive rather than worrying about the negative.

It's a touch worrysome to think of the actual repurcussions of pushing gold onto people as the best policy right now. We're currently living in the most media driven economy we ever have, maybe telling people to get out of banks and get out of stocks isn't the cure to the malady. Maybe a bit more research and finding some out of the box innovative companies is. Or at the least not adding more panic to the pain.... Maybe gloom and doom isn't the best policy to have in this media driven society...unless of course one stands to benefit from gloom and doom..........

I say let these companies fail, chips fall where they may. Poor business models, poor business's that drain our economy need to be replaced by innovative companies with working models that produce revenue and growth. Detroit shot itself in the foot, and the band-aid just needs to be ripped off. Sure it will hurt, bad for awhile, but in the long run, it will create a very needed space for actually effective companies to open their doors and start a new (less economically draining) system.

Experts: I think it's time to start re-looking at the way we view what experts tell us. M.S experts today stated extreme pessimism, these experts stated optimism. Experts several years ago didn't see any of this coming. Where were the investment banking experts, commercial banking experts, hedge fund experts, real estate experts several years ago when they should have been predicting this. Maybe it's time to stop relying so much on experts and take their advice with a grain of salt. At the very least maybe they should just constitue one very small piece of the research pie.

I think a similar investment strategy for bottom basement stocks has to be taken as one would for their investment portfolio in general. It's all about balance and diversity. For those investors still trying to create a balanced portfolio they need to have some stable (if such things still exist) stocks, some inexpensive stocks with potential to increase as well as other manner of stocks and investment vehicles. To just discount stocks because of their pricing wouldn't be doing justice to other forms of due diligence and would create a one sided portfolio. Just like pre-turmoil portfolio needs some risk so it is in our current situation as well.

I think in general investors need to more than just four potential stocks that are due to climb. I think we need an overhaul of our investment information sources. We have thousands of newsletters, thousands of websites and gurus all of whom have differing views on what stocks are bound to Climb. I think if one thing is to be proven it's that a lot of this advice is bunk and there are too many sources claiming differing things. I think more due dilligence has to be created in the infromation sources themsevles.
