  • Rooftop Solar And The $55 Billion Wake-Up Call [View article]
Rooftop solar simply does not pencil. After the year of no payments, the home owner has to find his own financing or come up with the money to pay the loan off. The power company here in AZ just added a monthly charge to solar customers. Take 1/5 of the money for solar and make your home more energy efficient.
First Solar built a $420 million facility in Mesa AZ to manufacture solar panels. The plant never opened. Its hard to sell a bad idea, no matter what make up you put on it.

  • Is The Middle Class On A Sinking Ship? No Economic Good Times For Them Or Their Retirement [View article]
A good deal of the current generation have 2 issues that impact this scenario; The perception of entitlement and government programs to meet that perception. The first issue has created a generation of consuming that often exceeds their means and the 2nd issue has created entitlement programs that contribute to the first issue, and will require increased marginal tax rates.

Progressivism has reinterpreted the concept of "equal rights" to "equal outcome".

  • Preferred Issues, Puts And Silver As Defensive Positions Over The Next Several Months [View article]
I owned bonds especially BAB's and enjoyed the appreciation when interest rates tanked. I moved on to preferred's and have realized some appreciation there also. If the 10 year ever returns, I will weather the drop in appreciation and enjoy the return. I tried CEF's and drew weary of the ups and downs. I am one of those retired persons that needs income.

  • PCTEL: Index Fund Selling Creates Opportunity [View article]
The P/E is 119. Guidance for Q2 would put the P/E at 64. For a tech company that is still high. Guidance for Q3 will put the P/E at 39. Your chart shows a P/E for PCTI of 15.1. (??)

Why are margins so low? (Gross Profit, and especially Operating Profit, Net profit)

  • Thoughts On Seadrill's Dividend [View article]
Again, there is a divergence between articles about dividend stability and the market at large. Generally the market wins (and is right). So what to do. Earnings projections by the company starting in the 3rd quarter give comfort for the intermediate term. How much further will the price drop?

  • Why Lantronix Could See Multiples Of Its Current Price [View article]
Removing the $9m of goodwill from current assets leaves a current ratio of <1 as I stated. Goodwill generally arises when you purchase something for more than the tangible assets. Valuing goodwill is highly subjective and at some point needs to written off.

  • Why Lantronix Could See Multiples Of Its Current Price [View article]
Looking at Nest Labs product mix, this comparison to Lantronix is a stretch. The Nest Labs products are "smart", network aware. The Lantronix product mix enables devices that have limited smarts that are network unaware to be attached to the network. The printer bridge product makes up for printers that do not support a protocol. The transition of intelligence to more devices seems to be the trend. The need for bridge devices may be short lived whether it be for devices that lack the smarts or do not support a protocol currently.
I would take issue with the premise of this article.
