  • Student Debt: Bad Loans Or Bad Education? [View article]
Bad idea. REALLY bad idea. I could see some partial scholarship for fields that have large shortages of skills. But a few other countries have tried that, and it was pretty much a flop - those with skills in high demand moved to Germany or the US, those with underwater basket weaving degrees stayed at home.

  • What Best Buy's Demise Means For Apple, Samsung And Google [View article]
Another major issue is local sales taxes. If I buy locally, I pay 10% more just in taxes alone. Why would I buy a camera from BBY when I can get it tax free from B and H in NYC - the shipping is perhaps 2%, but I save 10% on taxes.

I don't think it will take decades, more like 3 to 7 years.

You should really think about what you are saying before accusing anyone of anything.
    1. I don't know the author.
    2. Don't have any stock, never have, never will.
    3. Could not care less about what the stock does except as an illustration of super over-hype.
    4. The stock is down 50% in less than two weeks.

  • Venezuela To Devalue Its Currency Again, MercadoLibre's Financials Will Get Hit Hard [View article]
This is just from the past couple of days:
"Ford Cutting Production in Venezuela on Growing Dollar Shortage"
"Newsprint shortage threatens to close Venezuela's oldest newspapers"
"Venezuela weighs pet food price controls" (pet food price controls..WTF?)
"Venezuelans blocked from buying flights out"
    "Petrovietnam Suspends Venezuela Oil Production"
"Hunt for Food Sends Venezuelans to Colombian Border Towns"

Yup, sure sounds like a place I would want to invest in.

Venezuela is crashing and burning fast, it is almost impossible to find any good news at all from there. I would not be surprised if we start seeing a return to the old "coup of the month" era soon.

PetroVietnam just pulled out of the oil business in Venezuela as of a few hours ago, citing poor economic conditions.

  • Appeals court strikes down net neutrality rules [View news story]
You are probably correct. In my area I have a choice of three providers for high speed, but I am sure that many only have one.

You're right - I replied to the wrong post, so my comments in this context don't make much sense.

I don't see where any of your complaints - though valid - have anything to do with net neutrality.

And if you look at the amount of corruption - including in the government - in the railroad industry at that time, you might want to have a second thought about it. And why does the government have to do everything?

You are totally ignoring the fact that competition exists. If Verizon raises prices, then I have several options to change to.

How do you know it was a "right wing judge"? Right wingers complain about big government, yet when the judge tells the government to get out of the free market, you complain. You cannot have it both ways.

Net Neutrality is just one more way that the government is "fixing" the marketplace by imposing rules that ignore common sense. If I drive more, I pay more for gas. If I stream more, I pay more for bytes. Please tell me what is the basic flaw in that line of reasoning?
