A native from Hong Kong, Dr Ian Yip attended high school in Wah Yan College, Kowloon between 1975 to 1982. He received his higher education in the United States. Dr. Yip graduated summa cum laude (highest honor) majoring in Biology from Washington University in St. Louis. He went on and received his M.D. degree from Washington University in St. Louis. After medical school graduation, Dr. Yip completed his medical residency training at UCLA Medical Center and its affiliated hospitals. Dr Yip is currently an Associated Clinical Professor at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. Dr Yip is triple-board certified in American Board of Internal Medicine; Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism; and Clinical Nutrition. Dr. Yip’s major clinical interest is in the management of diabetes and obesity. Dr Yip has received numerous research awards from the National Institute of Health in the U.S. to conduct clinical trials in the area of diabetes and nutrition. In addition, Dr. Yip has received many Pharmaceutical Company sponsored grant to conduct cutting-edge research in the development of obesity drug. Dr. Yip is a frequent lecturer to physicians around the U.S. in Medical Management of Obesity. Dr Yip has authored over 60 peer-reviewed scientific articles, abstracts and book chapters. Dr Yip speaks fluent Cantonese and English. He is an active community educator to both children and adults, teaching them on nutrition and staying healthy. Dr Yip has maintained a busy private practice in the Los Angeles area. His patients are from all walks of lives and from various parts of the world: from celebrities to patients who weight 600 lbs!! Well-loved by his patients, Dr. Yip has helped and given nutrition advice to thousands of overweight patients.
