I love a contrarian view as much as the next person, but the foolishness of the analysis here is stunning. Seems like a bold move to attract attention rather than a serious look at the company and its potential in the future.
Disclosure: I've been long APPL for some time, and expect more profits in the next five years as the company evolves into something that doesn't exist today, a consumer information/entertainment organizer.
Nissan Hopes to Make the Price of Owning Electric and Gas Cars Equal [View article]
Hope Ford can make it work, as Nissan is coming on strong and other Japanese auto makers, especially Toyota, are banking on hybrids. What we see going forward is a fractionalized market, with families perhaps owning an electric for work commutes and a hybrid for long trips. The maintenance cost of an electric as well as the low fuel cost and long life expectancy in some parts of the country will make it economically feasible for those who can do the math.
Though it's tempting to cash in my profits, I'm holding Apple for a long time. Jobs has done a great job creating a culture that is innovative, stresses customer service and harkens back to the best American companies of yesteryear. If any company controls the future, it's APPL.
Mary Meeker: Economy Is Recovering, Mobile Is Exploding [View article]
Have you seen the horrible commercials pushing the Droid phone? Meant to appeal to tech saavy people, there isn't one significant advantage over the iPhone except the 5 megapixel camera, and, really, few are complaining about the camera in the 3GS.
Apple has no peer right now. That's why I've been long Apple for some time.
Freakonomics' Latest Adds Little to the Energy Debate [View article]
Excellent column. Global warming is complicated by issues far out of control of the species, such as solar weather. And the spurning of clean coal and nuclear, very promising sources that don't contribute to climate change, is very telling.
Nu Skin: Earnings to Surpass Estimates, Shares Keep Soaring [View article]
A HORRIBLE company, horrible aging play. Did you read the accounts of "diamond" sellers buying product and storing it in the garage in order to keep their high status as distributors? It's bad multi-level marketing, prone to puffery like this story, and there are MANY companies offering the same products at less cost at your local drug store.
This is idiotic. I have a Prius with 200K miles on it. Still original batteries. In San Fran they have used them as taxis for 300K miles, still original batteries. If I HAD to replace the batteries (which are warranted by the manufacturer for 150K miles), it would cost $4,000. That's a fraction of the gas I've saved if I've driven a lot of miles. Also, there are fewer parts on a Prius to maintain (no starter motor, no conventional transmission, etc.) It's an engineering marvel.
Talk about what you know, not what you think.
