  • As the controversy intensifies over whether or not the U.S. approves the Keystone XL pipeline, it seems that the oil will continue to flow across North America. At least 37 other pipeline projects are now planned or underway in the U.S. [View news story]

  • A TransCanada (TRP) exec is "optimistic" that within weeks it will decide to construct a pipeline that would bring light, sweet crude to refineries on the east coast of Canada and the U.S. TRP has said it was looking into converting its Main Line gas pipeline between Alberta and the Quebec-Vermont border into a crude oil pipeline; a converted Main Line could carry 500K-900K bbl/day, depending on shipper interest. [View news story]

  • Tens of thousands of demonstrators protested against TransCanada's (TRP) proposed Keystone pipeline in Washington yesterday, highlighting the dilemma President Obama faces: authorizing the pipeline could create jobs, boost his standing with unions, strengthen ties with Canada and reduce the U.S.'s dependence on Middle East oil; however, it would also alienate a key environmental base that helped get him elected.

Tens of thousands of demonstrators in Washington =500 hundred in real time?????com-on people.Anyone have any idea how many safe natural gas, oil, sewer, water, etc already operate underground in the US???This pipeline is politics at it's best & Obama will milk it to his advantage!!!!

  • While TransCanada (TRP) CEO Russ Girling expects U.S. passage of the Keystone pipeline, he proposes to ship oil 3K miles to the Atlantic Coast, allowing producers to send it by tanker to the Gulf of Mexico. The eastern route makes sense because of rising production from Alberta, and "you don’t need a presidential permit to bring oil into the Gulf Coast." [View news story]
As I have stated in the past---give Obama a deadline date for passage ,no amendments,no anything ,no jobs, no taxes,no oil, just go east & west in Canada to sell oil to anyone who will pay for it!!!

  • Valero (VLO) CEO Bill Klesse weighs in on the Keystone pipeline (TRP), calling the controversy "ridiculous. There’s pipelines everywhere. There’s a pipeline in front of your home. Out in the streets. Canada’s an ally, and the refineries on the U.S. Gulf Coast need the Canadian oil." But if the Keystone decision doesn't work out, VLO is prepared to use barges and rail to move the oil to the Gulf. [View news story]

  • Saskatchewan premier Brad Wall teams with 10 U.S. state governors in a letter to Pres. Obama lobbying for the Keystone (TRP) pipeline: "U.S. imports from Canada, a democratic friend and ally, could reach 4M bbl/day by 2020, twice what is currently imported from the Persian Gulf." Notably absent from the letter were Alberta's premier and Nebraska's governor. [View news story]
