  • How Growing HEV Markets Will Impact Battery Manufacturing Revenues [View article]
    John,

    your best article so far...!

It will be interesting to see how HEV-developments in China, India will influence, accelerate, change this process.

One other question is: Given all this problems, constraints that battery-technologies have: Do we have to go with fuell-cells in the long run?

  • Li-ion Battery Technologies: Understanding Their Development Path [View article]
    By the way:

did we ever discuss this company:

    www.gs-yuasa.com/us/pr...

I found an article in a german magazine last week where they claim that they are 2 years ahead of other LiIon companies.

They plan a trial together with Mitsubishi with 2000 electric vehicles starting this year. There will be 88 LiIon batteries in the car.
The range should be ~160km (Next generation will have 300km). Cost of the battery only is ~15000 Euro.

    +1

We have to go for really fuel efficient cars with less than 5 liters per km first. This should be then bioethanol or other renewable fuel.

Use batteries first stationary where weigth doesn´t matter but cost.

So let`s hope that in the long run everywhere where our cars park there will be renewable energy plus storage.

    This would help a lot!

  • A Very Smart Plan for Federal Smart Grid Grants [View article]
So this means with the german tariffs you need ~2600 charge/discharge cycles in the beginning.

Still a little ambitious and again an argument against more expensive batteries...

    John,

some more good news for greentech and I agree: despite old dinosaur industries...

If we assume a solar powered home needs a Axion-like battery:

Did you come up with a calculation about this battery already? I mean how big, heavy, expensive would a 5-10kWh thing be?

    Thx

PS: Still not able to change this stupid User xxxx thing :-(

  • Axion Power: Time Is Right for Gas Guzzlers to Dual Mode EV Conversions [View article]
    John,

another great article followed by an interesting discussion.

But I would prefer to get rid of gas guzzlers at all and replace them with really efficient cars. Here weight will be an important factor again...

So I do not believe that this is a big opportunity, just a temporary add on for Axion!

  • Axion and Exide: I Love It When a Plan Comes Together [View article]
    John,

I followed this thread already for a long time. As a High-Tech-Li-Ion-fan it took me a couple of articles to become convinced of your argumentation.

It took me another couple of month in this crappy market to buy some Axion shares that I finally did 3 weeks ago :-) !

What I don´t like is that in most discussion the focus goes pretty fast to cars and batteries: This issue has still to be solved in the future.

The biggest argument that I see: Let´s pretend for example solar will become cost competitive in 2,3,4 years and it will reach grid parity for shure!

=> Doesn´t it then make sense to have a battery in your house as well!? Where weight doesn´t matter so much but reasonable cost and reliability do?!
