  • Apple $395: Time To Give Up And Abandon Ship? [View article]
you really need to confirm the trend by the next 2 earning reports before deciding what AAPL will be in the future. I expect not too good result in the Jan to March quarter and even worst result for the April to June quarter. Then what they say about the July to Sept quarter will set the stage for apple for the next 12 month. If APPL can do OK in the April to June quarter then it will not go lower.

forget about all these talks that is not going to make any difference.
For the next 4 months it is the earning report of the 2 quarters and what they say about the next quarter that counts.
We should see some actual trends one way or other.
Then the stock price will follow.

you are wrong and he is correct
the trend in asia is more Samsung and less apple
most people in asia who want an iphone at the top pricing already have bought one in the US. My brother in law use to carry 3 to 5 iphones back to asia every 3 months. He has not done that in a year

even the ipad now is having problem competing in China.
The ipad mini has about a 75% market share right now and will go down every month.
You can buy a pad that has better hardware spec than the ipad mini for about 60% of the price. This eventually will reduce the ipad market share greatly.
Remember the apple "egosystem" is not that useful in China and apple has to compete on performance and price.

I just come back from China and Hong Kong this week
I have some very bad news for Apple
90% of the people there will go with a new smartphone that is 5 inches
If the iphone 5s is the same size as the iPhone 5 Apple can just forget the China market

sharing photos via the web is for people for just take pictures for fun.
A raw file for one picture is somewhere between 4 to 15 meg and we take easily one thousand pictures a day. Just sharing one hundred picture a day cannot be done via the web

  • Apple Should Pay Its Tax Bill [View article]
It is very easy for a company like apple to reduce its US tax liability to as low as it wants.
One very easy way is to set up a company in Ireland with about 12% corporate income tax. Let that company buy the product from where the product is build at about 10% over the manufacturing cost. Then sell the product out of Ireland. Pay Ireland the corporate income tax and the US will get nothing in income tax.
You can do better by negotiating with some local government to get no income tax for 10 to 15 years.
The only problem left is that "cash" may not be move easily. Some country also has restriction on how that "profit" can be used (or restrictions on moving it out of the country without further investment) You really need to know more about exactly where apple has its money and what restriction it has to face other than just bring it back to the US and pay tax.
If income tax is the only issue apple also can buy some US companies that has a lot of "income tax credits from losses" that is carry over from previous years.
All I am saying is that only Apple knows all the details and I believe they are in a better position to know what is best. Apple can obviously borrow money at a very low interest rate and do stock buy backs or dividends independent of what they hold in cash oversea.

apple now have no time to worry about the cash oversea.
It has to worry about only one thing.
How to stand its ground in the smart phone business.
If apple do not have a top of the line phone that is 5 inches or bigger by Christmas it will be games over.
I just return from Asia and I saw with my own eye that 90% of those I met with a top of the line smartphone will not buy the next one that is less than 5 inches.
Also people are sick and tired of Apples ridiculous approach to have everything their own "size" and format. We just found out you cannot buy a simm card to use the iPhone 5 in Hong Kong because apple has a smaller simm card slot that is not the standard in the industry. All our iPhone 5 that is bought in the US are useless in Hong Kong. Not only that. the fact you have to carry two different cables for the newer and older versions of the iPhone and iPad is also becoming an issue. I am also very angry when I cannot access my wife's iPhone 5 photos using my standard new ultrabook. I can see the disk and an empty folder. My group is very upset for the simple fact that we were unable to exchange photo files between iPhone, all other smartphones, ipad, and laptops. This is 1989 all over again for apple if they are not careful. Very few people will go all Apples. If they don't then they may think about no apple at all in the next 2 years.

  • Apple's Story: Only The Beginning? [View article]
I can tell you most of the top of the line smartphones sold in asia now are 5 inches. Until apple has a 5 inches phone they will not do well in Asia.
As for the low end apple has very little chance. In Asia Apple is just another label and has lost its "premium" position. 2 or 3 years ago every time people are bringing in iPhone from the US to Asia like hot cakes. It is common to have someone carrying 3 to 5 of them. Today none of the people that I know of is doing that anymore.

  • Could An iOS Exclusive iRadio Win The Summer Smartphone War For Apple? [View article]
The answer is iRadio is not a feature that will sell a smartphone. There are plenty of alternatives that you can stream radio.
Also in the future there will be plenty of additional memory to store all audio files you will ever need.

  • Apple Is Not Worth $460 [View article]
waterloo and Canadian forever are the same
I will give you another fact which I am sure both will consider to be just lies.
None of the people I deal with now own any blackberry phones and none is considering buying one. The last one was my wife and she was using BB for so long that I cannot even remember (she also always has another phone I pay for to be used for non business use)
By the way 90% of the people I deal with owns at least one top of the line phones and some more than one like me.
I am not pro apple but 70% of the people I deal with owns an iPhone. The rest are androids.

  • Apple: Major Concerns Overstated And More Than Priced In [View article]
I am not trying to predict where apple is going to do especially the stock price because there are so many things that can happen that may change it drastically.
But I disagree with the author that the price of the stock already have discounted what bad news are coming.
The biggest issue is what is the revenue and earnings of the company will be in the next 2 quarters. How is iPhone 5 going to do in the current quarter and the next with many new phones coming out and apple has to wait after July.
I am now travelling in China and most of the phones I see are "larger" than the iPhone 5 except iPhone 5. Almost everyone in our group has iPhone 5(including about 1/2 from China) and that also tell me it has saturated their potential customers. I think at least 30% of the iphone in China are bought in the US.

  • Why Investing In Apple Is Riskier Than You Think [View article]
Lets just talk about 30 years
the only market leader in tech that is still relatively big is IBM. Even IBM has changed from a main frame hardware/software computer to a mostly service company now. Intel was there but was not the market leader in semi. HP was there for the printers business and was not really a big company and now is suffering. At least 90% of all the publicly held tech company 30 years ago are no longer around. Most got into deep trouble and bought out at a low valuation. 20 years ago if someone want a bet from me that they will be bankrupt in 20 years I would give him a 50 to 1 odd. How can a market leader by far in photo supply can go out of business.
Also please remember Steve Job is also responsible for the downfall of Apple from 1989 to when he got fired. He made a lot of mistakes that took from a 25% market share down to 5%.
