  • Amazon Beware: The Google Empire Strikes Back [View article]
One thing I don't understand in all this is your assumption - "It can't compete with Google on the operating system; it doesn't have the technical resources to do so". That's a huge assumption in all this. OS's are built by engineers and Amazon has shown enough prowess to build software infrastructure around AWS/S3 etc, their own database offerings, including the recently launched sensation - dynamodb. They already have a working OS. How much do you think it will take them to tweak it according to their own needs?

  • Sales Tax Dilemma Threatens Amazon [View article]
Also what the author failed to mention was majority of the new fulfillment centers were outside the united states. This is investment in the future. Amazon is a company that adapts according to situation.
Adding a netflix like service just allows more users to get prime and once you are hooked on to prime you just order more. This is similar to the free samples you get at Costco and after every visit you end up spending $200 more than you should have on things you don't really need.
This author seems like someone who lost the opportunity to buy AMZN stocks when it was low and wants to lower it so he can buy more. So sick of this market manipulations by financial sector.

  • Google vs. Amazon: Battle of the Book [View article]
I dont see competition here between kindle and Sony's reader. You can claim your library is big. Truth is in the pudding. Whether a book you want is available for you to buy when you want it. If not then your reader is irrelevant.
On the other hand if a book is available for free online on google books, I would definitely go online and download it to my PC/iphone. Good news for consumers I guess.
