I think you are correct in your thinking. In the U.S. we have now decided that it is more prudent to freeze the size of the pie and share the wealth more equally as opposed to the idea of increasing the common wealth for everyone by making the pie bigger. Moving to Singapore is looking more attractive all the time.

You cannot distort the natural laws of economics and beat up on the engines of wealth production without dire results for America's great unwashed mob. Uneducated people will continue to follow their Rock Star politicians over the edge of the cliff while laughing all the way like the Pied Pipers children.
