  • JPMorgan's Mortgage Putback Risk [View article]
Conspiracy... that is laughable. you cannot take over a company the way JPM did with WAMU unless you FAIL.. which they did miserably. JPM was the first to stop underwriting sub prime before the collapse.

    always enjoy your articles!

I agree with the call on T... Right now is a hard time to find "deals" out there. was considering adding DE or maybe KMP. Wish JNJ or PG would come back to earth. Best buy on the list right now may be NLY? but i guess we have to see how things shake out with QE.

  • Is Intel A Long-Term Value Trap? [View article]
what you are saying here makes no sense.

INTC: market cap 121B, net income 10.31B, Revenue 53B
TSMC: market cap 99B net income 5.8B, Revenue 18.42B

TSMC has higher operating margins than Intel does.

they are valued within 20B (roughly 20% of each other) even though intel has 3 x Revenue, and almost double net income(100%!!).

Based on your logic, Intel is severely undervalued.

If you factor in the heavy capex intel could probably ratchet up net income by 2-3B over the next few years as expenditures start to slow somewhat.

  • Is Intel A Long-Term Value Trap? [View article]
very true. Intel is the only one who has proven 14nm thus far. they will continue to lead and shore up their chip offering... intel should be a 30$ stock even with their current numbers.

as long as they can still afford to do so... a few more quarters like Q1 they won't have anything to distribute... i will be watching Q2 closely to see if i hang on to my shares or go another direction.

very true. every two years so do I, at little to no cost. but that still pales in compassion to what i spend each year in gas between our 3 cars, 2 boats, plane etc...

  • Tim Cook's Improbable Victory In Washington [View article]
It won't be long til no companies will be headquartered in the US.

I work in the electronics industry and i cannot count how many corporations have set up and shifted major business functions to headquarters in Singapore, Taiwan, Malaysia etc... this country wonders why we don't have jobs. we treat our job creators like criminals. Like congress doesn't think the thousands of apple employees paying 30-40% in tax is enough. drop corporate tax rate to 15%, we will be flush with jobs.

AMEN Smartplay... The IRS will continue to hire more revenue agents, and pursue actions against tax paying citizens. As an investor and a person who already pays way too much tax (i don't have access to all the loopholes) I am sick of seeing how the congressmen can sit up on their pulpits and preach to companies about not paying enough taxes while they set up the rigged system in the first place.

Dog and pony show. I would prefer to see these companies pay what they owe - that is all.. every extra penny paid in, the politicians will just find new ways to waste it. the excess and gross mis-use of our taxes should be criminal.

Any body that can vote on their OWN PAY and RETIREMENT BENEFITS has no moral compass. While america struggles, they work 4 or 8 years and are set up for life. they should pay into the same system we everyone else is supposed to depend on.

As an investor in global companies i hate to see the government overstep their power and start creating laws to suit their own agendas, but I think apple is an extreme case which is probably why they are front and center but there are plenty to throw darts at(MSFT,GOOG).
Very similar to how celebrities who owe a million dollars are paraded out like mass murderers in front of the courts while people on obama's cabinet owe 250K in back taxes themselves.

I like you articles and will be following you. Thanks!

Its also interesting to watch how long XOM has stayed in this precious air (at the top of the list). if we look at the past victors (MSFT, CSCO) the others have come and gone in rather spectacular fashion. XOM deserves to be at the top and will stay there. APPL is one that is hard to make a case against - having almost a third of their cap in CASH! but market trends are turning against it... Plus the tax man might come a-calling and eat through some of that dough although the congressional hearings are probably more of a dog and pony show than a collections effort!

That's a valid point, and like you - I also won't be buying a smart phone again for another year or so - I do fill up the tank a few times a week and will continue to do so until someone comes out with a plug in car that drives 600 miles w/o charging. But on the contrary, there are plenty of Apple fan boys and girls who will line up around the block to buy whatever new polished turd they are turning out this week. Their margins crush just about anyone else's minus maybe big pharma.

At the end of the day getting oil out of the ground is getting harder and harder, while consumption grows which in return should mean rising prices. cellphones are getting cheaper not more expensive which would be opposite of how oil production will go over 10 years... so the company with the largest reserves and best replacement goes the spoils...

I was looking at that as well... plus almost double the dividend yield.

I hold XOM and a larger position in COP at the moment but might look into RDS due to the fact the stock has been beaten down pretty good due to the squeeze on nat gas margins.
