Argentina never held those islands in their entire history. They also claim other South Atlantic islands (Sandwich & South Georgia). Look at a world map while you're in Argentina, they have an interesting take on what is their territory.
If you want to upset them when they are railing on about the Falklands, ask them when they are going to give Misiones province back to Paraguay. They took that a lot more recently than the Brits took the Falklands from Spain (not from Argentina).
Copper consumption in China is expected to drop 8.5% to 5.6M metric tons this year, contracting for the first time since 2008 before rebounding in 2013, Simon Hunt says: "The safety valve of exports has gone, the domestic economy is slowing down, they have a problem of surplus capacity and cash is extraordinarily tight... There are no signals of a recovery in heavy industry and manufacturing." [View news story]
Given the explanation for the drop; why is a rebound in demand expected in 2013?

Fiat will have to figure out how to turn Opel around; which is something GM hasn't been able to do. Opel is bleeding GM and this one way to stop the bleeding.
What I am saying is that getting Opel for "free" may not be such a great deal for Fiat.

Sometimes getting rid of a loser is the best you can do.
When Fiat says free, imo they mean no up-front money. Even if they don't take on any debt, they will be taking on pension and other liabilities for the employees. That releases GM from those liabilities. So that would be something at least.
High Yielding Upstream MLPs: The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly [View article]
Congress looks at things like MLPs and REITs periodically, and only they can change that law (its not up to the executive branch). And the price of MLP/LLP units fall when that happens.
I am not sure that they will take action, but then again Canada eliminated most of their trusts (similar set-up) after they said they wouldn't. And Canada wasn't in dire straits when they did that.

Here is the communication from PWC: Most of these states require a return to be filed even though the income earned from the state is so small that it may not result in any tax payable. As the partnership income meets most of these states' filing requirements, and the income amount is relatively low, could you please advise if you would like us to prepare the tax return for each of the State. I roughly counted it to be around 8- 9 states.
I told them to file for all states. You never know...
District Judge Denise Cote yesterday approved an antitrust settlement in which major publishers - Lagardere's Hachette, CBS's (CBS) Simon & Schuster and News Corp.'s (NWS) HarperCollins - agreed to end alleged price-fixing e-book deals with Apple (AAPL). It's a major win for Amazon (AMZN), while Pearson's (PSO) Penguin, Macmillan and Apple are going to take their chances in a trial. [View news story]
This is good news. No reason that I should pay the same for an e-book as for a hard-bound book.

The thing that is notable is the Chinese are spending less than $US 200 billion for all of those projects. The U.S. has increased debt by trillions and what is there to show for it?
Bank Preferreds - A Viable Alternative For Cash [View article]
In my opinion, these are not a viable option for holding cash. They are an option for generating yield. I do hold some preferred issues (none purchased at a premium to par) and PGX looks like a good option if you are looking for yield.
Many, if not most, preferreds are currently selling at a premium to par. The premium can disappear if interest rates increase. Please look at the chart for any preferred issue before you buy it. Even the price of PGX has varied by over 14% from high to low in the past 12 months. It is possible to lose capital with these. That is why I hold the opinion that they are not a good place to park cash that you will be needing.

AMZN comes to mind. Look at their chart since the ipo in 1997. Even if you bought in 1999, with P/E over 100 and AMZN at peak values prior to the tech crash, you would have more than doubled your investment through yesterday. Although 2001 would have been a little scary...
Not recommending FB or AMZN (P/E is about 300 now), just pointing out that at least one high P/E stock has performed well over a period greater than 10 years.
BHP Billiton (BHP): H2 profit before items -35% to $7.16B vs. consensus of $6.96B. Abandons $20B Olympic Dam copper expansion and will look at a "less capital intensive option." Won't approve any new projects until at least mid-2013. It's the biggest sign of how China's slowdown has stalled the global mining boom. (PR) [View news story]
It doesn't hurt CCJ either. The expansion would have boosted Olympic Dam's uranium production too.

PWC does my taxes, so its a cost but not a big problem for me.
