Buffett On Berkshire's Dividend Policy
Nice analysis, but still I did not get exactly if the point was to try to proof Buffet wrong, or simply to a self justification of why you don't buy BRK shares.
It is clear that if you are an income investor, BRK is not your ticker symbol.
I believe that as investor, depending on your skills or your extra money, you choose how involved you get into your investments. Buffet always says that more then often times, you will be better of investing in an index fund rather than doing active stock picking investment.
I think that due to the size of BRK, it is more and more close to 'the market' and it is very reasonable, that one wants to have Mr. Buffet and Mr. Munger to manage your money right ? Instead of any John doe money manager at a Bank, that never in his life managed to beat the market.
Buffet also says that if you cannot do better with the money you get as dividends, then what is the point ? Just let it be reinvested in a business that gets your 12% total return.
If you need money for your summer vacations, that is totally valid too, but then... it is another story.
