  • Alcoa Outlook After Q1 Earnings: Aluminum Weakness Still Overshadows Downstream Success [View article]
It certainly is a commodity stock and will not do well again until the economy heats up and we have some inflation. Along with the other metals, the author points to the price slump and thus the stock price stuck in the mud. We are starting to see inflation in housing. Metal prices will advance as soon as we start seeing stronger employment numbers and the Fed increasing interest rates. That will start the stampede back into AA but that may be several years off.

  • Alcoa - Dragon Hurting Both Demand And Supply [View article]
Soft drink demand continues to increase and aluminum cans continue in popularity. Worldwide consumption of aluminum continues to increase for the need for light weight vehicles and aircraft. The economic cycle has taken its toll but the upswing will occur. As part of the DJIA, AA will continue to increase from hungry investors looking for growth and dividend yield making it a target for index funds as a must buy.

  • Alcoa: The Best Long-Term Opportunity On The Dow [View article]
Great chart and believe it or not this is the first time I've seen a "symetrical triangle." I used to be sensitive to charting and have studied candle charts and patterns but currently I'm more into dividends and fundamentals.

The fundamentals are there for AA. But may I beg you to point to more examples of this triangle signal if you do consider it a significant signal and on the hoped for breakout, from previous examples - how high can it go? Does your source explain this?

  • Shorts Historically Rewarded Off Alcoa's Earnings-Driven After-Hours Trade [View article]
They are probably buying back the stock after the quiet period is now over with the news out.

  • Alcoa Earnings Preview: Trading At A Discount To Tangible Book (For A Reason) [View article]
I'm far from an expert on metal prices but I do know some experts here locally that buy and hedge aluminum for their operations. They maintain an inventory and say they hedge it in the futures market. I wonder how inelastic supply can be in the short run. We may be seeing a relative shortage soon. I'll certainly be asking about this at the next annual meeting for COKE. I thought HFC syrup was a high variable cost but that is fixed by KO.

  • Alcoa Breaking Out Ahead Of 4Q Earnings, Shares Near $9.20 Resistance [View article]
A good hedge against aluminum prices is to own COKE. They are active in the aluminum market as a major variable cost to their softdrink bottling operations.

Nice rundown on what AA "was" doing. But, what about what are they going to do?

As a basic material stock with more aluminum content going into autos, decreasing cost with soft demand for wholesale electric power and low interest rates spuring consumer demand for finnished product, this doggied DJIA stock should outperform the market in 2013.

I've been buying it toward the close of 2012 and now have it at a profit with a full position in my traditional IRA.

  • Alcoa's Share Price May Fall To $5 In November-December Timeframe [View article]
I do not understand the use of a BLS index to compare to AA's stock price as you describe. Wouldn't it be better to just compare it to the price of aluminum, a commodity that can be hedged and well priced in the market?

If it is true that AA will fall, a good hedge could be to buy COKE if the price of aluminum is factor to correlate a future stock price.

Good timing? I'm going to click in an order right now. This will be a new position in my IRA.

    You done good again Andy!
